My course had a Callaway club fitting today and I came away with a few interesting observations. I hit the Apex and Paradym irons, the Paradym and Great Big Bertha drivers, and the Paradym and Great Big Bertha fairway woods. Those were the only models the fitter gave me to try out.
I also hit my current irons (Maltby KE4 Max with MMT graphite shafts) and Cobra Amp Cell driver with Fuji Fuel shaft.
I really wasn’t all that impressed with any of the Callaway clubs except for the Great Big Bertha driver although I hit my Amp Cell just as well if not better. I didn’t like the feel of the Callaway irons and hit my KE4 Max irons much better.
It wasn’t a true fitting, more like a club try out. The fitter didn’t recommend length or lie adjustments, he just handed me different clubs to try with a few different shafts. Since it was free, I didn’t really expect a detailed analysis of my specs.
It was kind of fun to try out the latest and greatest that Callaway has to offer but I came away less than impressed. My old sticks work just fine for this 7 handicapper. I don’t need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on new clubs (at least not Callaway).
