Think about it this way. The car hits a tire that is rolling. The tread that the car hits is going UP and lifts the front end of the car. The tire then momentarily stops upright as it gets squished into the roadway and the car launches off of it.

    The timing of this had to be perfect.

    Am I the only one that noticed the truck that the wheel came off of, just kept going/got the hell outta Dodge?? That sumbich was not coming back for any wheel. 😉

      I understand that, but the tire was angled as it hopped over into the front of the car and then comes out perfectly upright. It would have had to have hit on the corner, had enough friction to return upright (and overcoming it's new gyroscopic orientation) just as the car hit it, and then not have gotten a forward kick when the car impacted it. All things possible, but astronomically incredible timing as far as physical alignment and proportions go.

      Anyway. I have no evidence that it isn't real. It just doesn't seem likely to me that it would be. Seems kind of strange that no one seems to have interviewed the drivers (car, truck, or dash cam owner). Perhaps they all just wanted their privacy, but usually when a person survives a seemingly miraculous event like this the news would be all over the human interest story.

            If you go to slo-mo/stop action @ :42-:44, you can see the tire blow before coming loose, and then going under the car at an angle.

            A long story, but I'll shorten it. In a semi when the spare tire, that was lying flat on the carrier underneath, vibrated out. Back wheels ran over it, uprighted it, and set it in motion. To get it off the interstate, we bumped the tire towards the ditch only to have it gain a ton of forward speed; enough to actually now pass us at 65 mph. It hit a guardrail, rode up it, becoming airborne, heading straight up towards the traffic on an overpass. Not even the 3 stooges could come up with a look on their faces like me and my buddy had. The tire hit the side of that overpass and came right back at us, missing us by a few inches.
            The black mark, perfectly outlining tire treads, from that 'splat' was on the concrete for many, many years; may still be there down by St. Louis.

            And my buddy got out, after having just ate breakfast, and puked like a dog. 50 years later, we still laugh about it(tire and puking) when we see each other. #1, damnedest thing ever, in our lives.

              Not that anyone cares, and this is of course statistically not reliable for anything important, but I was personally curious the last 2 days around my area (subdivision) and work area (main parking garage). Granted, these are small samples, and YMMV

              subdivision, cars parked in driveways or in overflow street areas :
              day 1: 47 , 16 had either front, or front+rear dashcams
              day 2: 39 , 15 had either front, or front+rear dashcams

              13 were the same vehicle , many people play car "tetris" between the driveways, garages, and street overflow, so hard to gauge further

              work parking garage (only 1 of the 7 levels)
              day 1: 203 , 91 had either front, or front+rear dashcams
              day 2: 205, 102* had either front, or front+rear dashcams

              • denotes that possibly 102, but the front windshield was illegally tinted to such a degree I couldn't be certain if it was a dashcam or a radar detector

              So very anecdotally, around 40% of people in my "orbit" have and use these devices. I would never have thought the # was that high, but then again, I never would have thought opening a thread about dashcams people would be asking why they exist and people have them. It prompted me to survey how ubiquituous they are, at least to the degree I can determine.

              My future DIL has one. It came in handy when some idiot caused her to have a small accident. She was able to show the cops exactly what had happened, which immediately cleared her of any traffic violation.

              They are definitely gaining popularity here. Been used in other countries for awhile. Many web sites with tons of dashcam accident footage. As long as people keep being people, a dashcam is a good idea.

              Supp that's the crazy part, as that kia got some serious air....but it seems like the way it took a semi nose dive prevented it from rolling which would have likely been a different story re: injury!

                KCee Proof that you weren't the cause of the accident? Unless you were the cause and then any footage would be a bad thing lol.

                Yep, and protection in a road rage incident. I should get one.

                    garyt1957 My coworker just had someone cut out in front of him and wound up totaling his truck. His dashcam recorded the whole thing so there was no dispute....it was also a cool video. I bought mine after I got rear ended at a stoplight although the driver took full responsibility.

                        Bravopilot I bought a Kingslim D1 Dual off Amazon. It's not the best by any means, but it was super cheap and someone I know had one and liked it. They keep dropping in price. I think my buddy said he paid $60, but I saw it for < $30 recently lol.

                            KCee the Kingslim Duals are now over $100, which seems cheap to me. Rove is another Amazon choice at $120
