A guy at work told me this morning that he purchased a new set of Ping irons.

Me," What model?"
Him,"425s"
Me, "What shaft?"
Him," Steel"
Me, "Which steel shaft?"
He stops and rubs his head...
Him,"What evah they come with."
Me," What flex?"
Him,"What evah they come with."
Since I just had to ask it at this point...
Me,"What color code?"
rubs his head again...
Him,"I dunno...what ever they come with,"
Me,"When do they come in?"
Him,"I have them."

He's been taking about getting these for weeks. Must have been a hell of a fitting to make this much of an impression.

Did he get fit or get them off the rack? Actually he might have got them online and just got standard everyrhing.

We get these people all the time to get fit. Ask them about their old clubs, they know nothing about any part except the name. Those people are the ones we help the most.

Typhoon Hard to say with this guy.... if I ask him if he was fit he might say yes.... if I ask him if someone took him through the fitting process I might get a different answer....he purchased 5 - PW because "That's how they come." No one will ever call this guy Albert Einstein and mean it.

It is funny how one player knows EVERYTHING about their clubs and the next player knows NOTHING lol.

I play with a good friend most weekends and he refuses to go for a fitting and learn about clubs. I think most of his clubs don't fit him especially his irons and wedges, but his eyes glaze over if you start to talk about bounce or anything......and he's a freakin' engineer! lol.

Club manufacturers have engineers that designed all these clubs we buy. And millions are sold 'off the shelf', not through fitters. Is that not the way they were designed, to work for the large majority of users?

Fitters don't get it right either, for the majority. From my observations of discussions around the internet. And observations of 'for sale' ads, from those 'fitted'. 😲

Buy clubs, play golf. Enjoy the outdoors and life!

It definitely seems strange to me that someone could buy clubs and not know the shaft flex at least. I guess if they bought them through a knowledgeable person that fit them it doesn't really matter. But for off-the-shelf it can be a huge difference in performance, feel, and, as a result of those, satisfaction.

Par4QC Club Champion is the biggest offender. One of our league guys that I’m friendly with gets a shaft from CC and can’t hit it to save his life. He hates it. Shaft alone was $600… some “proprietary shaft” from CC I’ve never heard of. I tried it… fuckin awful, talk about rebar 🙄.

I could sell a $400 shaft to someone during a fitting but I don’t. No point to it, nobody is going to see a $400 benefit. And most of the people just nod anyway.

I laugh about the adjustable drivers. This blows my mind the most. I ask if they have adjusted their driver loft. They ask me what I’m talking about. I’ll say, did you get a wrench with the club? They say yes… I say, what did you think it was for??? Customer says “I dunno”

True. My buddy's only fitting was for his irons (Titleist T300) which are very nice, but I think he hit the old Snake Eyes irons I built for him better. He always reaches for his hybrids as he hits those so much better. He will choked down and bunt his 4h on a par 3 that he could hit 7i.....and he will hit it better, but long at our course is dead and that is the miss with a 4h lol. He asked me what club he should buy next and I couldn't convince him to ditch the T300's for a hybrid set, but he did buy the 5h that matches his 4h.

Typhoon Fitting for shaft flex is the biggest bullshit there is, imo. The amount of XS shafts for sale is mind boggling, as to how they all ended up with that flex. No idea how they figure someone needs XS just because a monitor shows 115 swing speed. "By the book", I suppose. That book needs burned. Look at yourself, you already know what I'm saying. Book needs to be rewritten to read 'swing', not swing speed.
Oh, and I also read about all the broken shafts. That are XS!! WTF?

The only thing I like about these adjustable heads is that I do not have to ever look at a closed face again. I set mine to square or slightly open, and go.

I use my hybrids like that fella you mention. No idea just how far I could hit them, and really cannot hit them properly either. But, each is a set distance for me, and they make 'work' easy, on course.

Par4QC 100% on the open face. I've been known to install grips on drivers with the 'hash marks' as such to reflect an open face.

This thread is turning into an incitement of fitters so I'll pile on. I have a friend who spent $1K on a driver with an exotic shaft at CC. More often than not he leaves it in the bag and uses his 3-wood off the tee.

I was just in DSG today, fondling most everything, but no one. I'm shocked at the closed faces on EVERY TM and Callaway FW club in the store(new & last year's models)!! WTH happened? I do mean every one, as I did pick them up to check. The hybrids seemed all to be square-open.
