sdandrea1 As much as you build every year, it's probably time to invest in a 42" belt sander with a turning arm of some type. Take a look at good tool supply houses vs. golf clubmaking 1" x 42" belt sanders. Some come with a bench type grinder. GolfMechanix is the preferred tool manufacturer if you are going to stay in that realm. Various 1" x 42" belt for turning ferrules are available. I like the Durabrite felt, they used to be blue now gray I believe. Don't get a 30" as they turn to fast to do a nice job.
The main thing is use a ferrule that has close to the OD of the hosel and just slightly over to not have to remove as much material. Ferrules are manufactured for this good fit slightly over what the OD of the hosel is. I always check with calipers measure hosel OD to ferrule OD.
Then just practice but one of the pitfalls is not to get belt over the upper edge of the ferrule which would turn against a graphite shaft marring the coating. You could tape to protect but as you do more and become experienced that's a needless step. Steel shafts not as big a deal. At one time or another you will learn of what I speak. Rotate the shaft the way the belt is turning to remove less material and do a finer job. You will build ferrule lace of ferrule material removed.
Any questions let me know. Good luck!
