  • Hireko (or others) Long Iron Replacements

I had posted this question in another thread, but realized that it didn't really belong there. So, I have moved it into its own thread.

For those of you who are familiar with Hireko's products, how does the Dynacraft Prophet CB long irons (3 and 4) compare to the Dynacraft driving irons, which have about the same loft. I still hit my long irons reasonably well. My driver swing speed is about 103-105, so I have the swing speed to hit long irons, but I am starting to look around for alternatives. (I'm also interested in how the Warp Speed play, both in respect to a long iron replacement and a set as whole.)

I really don't like hybrids and I'm not particularly attracted to high-lofted FWs, so I would like to stay in something in the "iron family," but with a bit more forgiveness. I think there are quite a few of us out here with the same issue. One of the guys I play with regularly is a reasonably good golfer (even though his scores would suggest otherwise). He hits his driver a ton with pretty good control, and he's a decent iron player. But because of his decreasing swing speed, his pro has moved him into hybrids. Well, I'm not sure what it is about hybrids and FW woods, but put either of them in this guy's hands and it's like he is a rank beginner.

Any experiences you want to share?

The offset and sole width are similar, but the feel will be the biggest difference IMO, also the look, as the driving iron has a slim kneck, where the hosel meets the face, ala the warp speed iron. The driving iron is decent but the Maltby tour hdi and wishon 590 dih are both superior, with the wishon being the best of the bunch.

I preferred the Prophet CB long irons to the Dynacraft driving irons -- thought they had more zip, though neither was a big change from the Warp Speed irons. And I felt the same way comparing the Wishon 870ti 3 iron to the 590, much preferred the 870ti. I've given all of them up for hybrids and mostly only play 5 iron on down.

You'll see more forgiveness with the Warp Speed long irons than you will with the Prophet CBs. Plus the Warp Speeds will give you a higher launch. Now, the Prophet CBs were a little longer for me but if forgiveness is your goal then I would recommend the Warp Speeds. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to test the Dynacraft Driving Iron yet so I can't weigh in on them.

golfer_LD warp speeds have a noticeably longer blade length, and more of a medium sole width overall, but really narrow towards the heel vs. The propet cb's which are wider throughout....agree the warp speeds will generally be more forgiving unless you need or are used to a wider sole, then the gap is narrowed quite a bit.
