I was cleaning out my garage a few months ago and ran across an old club I used to play back in the day. It's a Giant GX2 9 wood (yes a 9 wood) I used to use it as a trouble club because it was heavy and had a low face. I loved the sound and feel from its Maraging steel face. It also had an oversize Avon grip.

Anyway I decided to replace my 4 iron with it and see if it still had the magic. The answer is yes it does! Out of the junk or off the deck it's a winner for me.

Anyone else find an oldie but goodie they put back in theirbag?

I dug out an old Toski 9 wood head (24*, by Maltby), shafted it with an Aldila NVS shaft that I bought for $13 at a Golfsmith-going-out-of-business sale, and took it to Florida with me. I'm still figuring out what distance I hit it and where it will fit in my set, but I love the flight, sound and feel of it. It'll be interesting to see what distance I get when I get back to familiar conditions at home in Ohio.....

Patty Berg Cup Defender putter, a short heavy butter knife of a putter. It beats the Ping and many other modern putter ( rolling on the family carpet ). Only a S/C came close.
I'll bag it whenever the weather is dry enough to get out on the golf course.

I keep a Perfect Club and a Perfect Club Approach in my "ready barrel". They get switched in or out of rotation depending on who is misbehaving. Currently, they are doing barrel time. I bought them at a church yard sale for $10 each several years ago.

Well, I picked up a $40 set of irons off ebay, mainly because I wanted the Rifle 5.5 shafts. Of course, I hit them much straighter and more consistently than my forged set with Steelfibers.

Not PX, the old Rifle Flighted. I hate PXs. I am concerned about elbow pain again, but graphite shafts are too light. Going to put ProSofts in these. And I'm going to build a couple of graphite shafted clubs for use on range mats.

Hope they're ok for you. I remember hitting a set of project x one night, loved them...next day I'm saying to myself " why do my elbows hurt?"

Same goes for c-taper shafts...made by the same guy too

I hear ya! I've been playing graphite for a good 5-6 years. But I just can't seem to get any umppph with them, it feels like I am flipping my hands under the ball. Timing always seems a little off too. Played my first full round with the Rifles today, and they just felt so solid and my tempo was so much better.

I may go after some 110gm or so graphites, but I've got 9 new Steelfiber i80s, and a set of i80 pullouts, and a set of i95 pullouts, not to mention two new Callaway wedges with i95s arrived today! Arghh.

I tried C Tapers on a mint set of SLDR irons. Pure eye candy from head to grip but I didn't make it thru 18 holes before I knew they would injure me.

The I95 are real nice. The pro at my place has then with Muira heads and I use them indoors during the winter. They are a good weight.

If your having trouble flipping maybe you could backweight a little to slow down your hands or try the Golf pride MCC +4 grip?

KZG Q driver...had one a few years ago and just picked another one up off the bay for $30. Thing is straight!

Almost forgot about the Q
have a KZG Q 4 wood and it's the best fairway wood I had ever owned. Not in the bag currently because it has the TTDG X-100 shaft, a bit strong for my current state of physical condition. From 200-210 yards this is the money club from almost any lie.
Perhaps I'll fond another shaft for it.

Release Any chance you have a 3 wood? I've been looking for one to pick up. That 4 wood sounds fun to hit though. How was the weight on it with that heavy of a shaft?

I keep coming back to the Orlimar Trimetal fairway woods. I have the 15, 17, 19, 23, 26, 28, and 30 degree. So easy to hit off the fairway. I also have a couple sets of the Orlimar Trimetal irons. Probably my favorite irons of all time. I've tried them all but the Trimetals are just solid.
