pike51 Everyone thinks they want to be a goalie until the try it.
I hear you but I realty think I could have maybe played it, at least on the high school hockey level. In a position
that requires some of the same reactions or reflexes (I think) I played 3rd base in a fast pitch softball league.
I played even with the pitching mound so I was quite close to the batter which demands quick reactions or
you'll end up eating the ball and/or using your cup. I was good enough at that that our pitcher, who was older
and was very good, good enough that an all star traveling team that played throughout the Midwest and were
known as The King and his Court recruited him took it for granted that I would play 3rd base for the college team
when I moved on to college. My first move was very good and my reactions were good enough that I was very
good at ping pong. There was a tournament at my college at least once a week and I never finished worse than 3rd place. I used to read where one of the all time great goalies, Gump Worsley said training by playing ping pong helped
keep him sharp for hockey. I may be completely off base but I know I would like to have tried it. I'll never really know
if I could have done well or not. I'm surely not going to try now at age 74.
