Yeah??...compared to who? Pros? Or hacks that watch films/have coaches?

I'm kinda lost as to what group I may be in....I neither have coaches nor watch films. And most certainly, am no Pro.
So, what about me?? I suck?????

I used to play Racquetball at a pretty high level against some of the best players in So.Cal.
R-ball was such a fast/reactionary type of sport you didn't have the time to think about
what to do.
Golf on the other hand is just the opposite, you have nothing but time to think about what to do
and what not to do, to get that damn little ball to go where you want it to go.
Paralysis of analysis comes creeping into my mind on occasion....the less I think the better I tend to play!

Typhoon a fundamentally sound motion

The only 1 I have in golf is that my body parts all do move. Not the same way twice, nor in the right direction sometimes. By they all do 'fundamentally function'. As body parts.

As I pointed out to Rex, I said THE VAST MAJORITY sucked. I was a good left fielder, played at a good level 5 days a week. Had a decent arm but quit playing because my arm was going to fall off. I likely SHOULD have been thinking about how I threw the ball as my mechanics were off likely causing my arm pain.
But a lot of those beer league guys that WERE good likely played in high school where they got some good instruction on mechanics. We had a work team one time and all the guys who came out that never played much if at all threw like girls.

Golf is just a different animal. Again, the disparity between good and bad is wider than any other sport, by far. Golf will embarrass and humiliate you. Never been embarrassed at any other sport I played.

Matter of fact years ago I was playing horribly and said out loud, 'we're beyond embarrassment now and have crossed into humiliation.' 😎

But I will say this. Even on my worst days I always did hit some good shots. That's what keeps me coming back. The good shots.

Also, I've never had a hole in one (took 20 years off from golf though). But have played with guys who played their whole lives and never had one.

However, if I ever do get one I don't want it to be a terrible mishit that just barely gets off the ground, hits the rake by the bunker and does a 45 degree turn and goes in the hole. lol

I know golfers who have had that type thing happen.

I've been LUCKY enough to have 5 and only two really meant something, as in actually winning
a big HOI pot......the others wound up costing me $$ for rounds of drinks, which I think is a dumb-
bassackwards tradition!

It is a 'game'. It will never humiliate nor embarrass me. I will do that on my own terms. And have.
Much like making the wrong move in chess. It was not the game that did it. Or shooting an air ball in basketball.

Yeah, when we had our senior men's quota group we had a hole in one pot for 5.00 each. So when someone got one you could win ~ $150.00 and that would go along way in covering the bar tab. lol

True. I just laughed like a clown, but never pissed myself. 😄
Like Sneaky wants....both were perfect hits, went exactly where I aimed, and everything went as I saw it happening before hitting the ball. I've hit those same shots, on those same holes, many times since, with a couple coming damn close again. It is a lot of luck.

I've had 4 aces. All of them were well struck shots, but finding the hole was ALL luck!

johnnydoom We all play well, score well, on certain courses, no doubt. Esp. if we play them quite often. If you play several different ones, esp. ones never played before, that may/will make a big diff sometimes.
FYI, you don't suck, I seriously doubt that. 😉

Par4QC Depends on how you look at it. All time low 18 is 81. During a period in my life when I played 9 holes almost once a week I got to where I’d shoot in the 80’s half the time. I am not naturally suited to precision activities and have only proven good at them with constant practice - which I’m unwilling to devote the time to. So I guess you can say I’m as good as I want to be, but not very good. But as someone else mentioned earlier, I’ve learned to appreciate a well struck ball more than the score and therefore still find enjoyment in the game. The reality though is that score is the measure of success in golf and by that measure I’m not so good.

sdandrea1. I've always said that but was careful because it sounds like sour grapes if you don't have one. Now that I got my first I feel like I can say it. They're nothing to get that excited about. It takes a good shot to get it in that 5-10 foot area then it's all luck.
