pellmell What we think we're doing isn't necessarily what's really happening.
Yup, all we have is feel along with 'intent'. And impact is the only thing that counts. Too many golfers are caught up in style which generally has little influence on anything.
Most high functioning hackers release much too soon with a single pendulum. Meaning the club bottoms out slightly behind the ball or at the ball, with little forward shaft lean.
If your intent is to get the club to release later then there's multiple feels you can use. You could use a double pendulum swing using weight shift (Marcus at ZEN Golf). Or you can retain the extension in the right wrist longer.
Again, with me the right palm down feel my intent is to hit the ball with a descending blow while not letting my right wrist going into flexion too early. Thus my single pendulum moves forward and is now a double pendulum.
This is my only swing thought. And my ball striking with my irons is the best it's ever been. Continued today.
Here's the problem with asking good ball strikers / golfers how they do it. They have no idea. They just can. For those of us who are not good ball strikers we need to figure out what works for us.
Usually feels don't last long as we know. And maybe this one won't either. But my 'intent' is simple. Have my right palm facing down and don't let the right wrist go into flexion too early. Some might call it educated hands.
I haven't clanged an iron in awhile. I can clang the ball around the course and break 80. But it feels so much better feeling that solid feel off a well struck iron shot.
I guess I want my cake and eat it too. lol BTW I think Kelvin Miyahira is a genius.
