Typhoon I hit the shorter length club farther and with more ball speed.
Older Ping clubs were 1/4" short of standard lenghts and around D0 in swingweight. It gives a different feel to the club and it made Ping stand out in the crowd.
Typhoon Holy Crap!
I used to play standard lenght, but as an experiment I made me a set 1/4" longer; made them as light as possible at D3. I did hit the clubs well, but I didn't like the feel of them at all untill I shortened them to Ping length and D0. Now I build all my clubs 1/4" short of standard lenght and D0.
Shorter clubs are lighter in swingweight (unless you add weight).
- shorter clubs give a little less clubhead speed but gain in accuracy hitting the sweetspot and as such gain in ball speed.
- ligther clubs can increase clubhead speed, but may make you loose control and loose in ball speed.
There's opposite effects that mostely cancel each other out, but the "holy crap" feel of hitting the ball in the center of the sweetspot is easier to achieve with shorter clubs. You might add some lead tape to bring back the swingweight to normal to see if this improves even more.
