rsvman2 Most years the flu vaccine efficacy is between fifty and about 70%. Rarely the efficacy is quite low, like 30-35%. It is not 30% of 40% (which is 12%,for the mathematically challenged), as was suggested earlier in the thread.
Toulon, here. Sorry, to breach my 17-year-ban that was upgraded to "indefinitely". Will only post this, because I just couldn't, in good conscience, let this stand. It is misinformation. As you can see in the table below, and you can check the link, if you don't trust the table, you will see the flu vaccine efficacy is usually under 50%. I've highlighted every year the vaccine was less than 50%, from 2004-2022.
This year, as you can see, efficacy was just 14%.
As someone who still reads this site, daily, Shoko has been right on the money, as usual. For whatever reason, Doc is peddling some odd things here, and this is case and point.
I understand he has a title and guys like Sneak will only listen to those with medical training, but it's important to fact check your doctor. It's very easy to do today. No different than checking on a vehicle you're going to buy. You'd certainly verify all information you could, as it is easily obtainable online.
Flu efficacy over the years is no different. YOU can find that out yourself with very little effort. Or, you can be beholden to a doctor who may not be giving you good information, as was the case here regarding flu shot efficacy. And, the best part... these are ESTIMATES. Guaranteed to be MUCH lower than they're representing.
Don't worry. Not here to bust up any fantasies. Just this one detail which is so easily verifiable needed addressing, so I addressed it. I'll be back to lurker who was banned, but this was a blast while it lasted.

EDIT: Oops, missed 2014-15 when it was just 19%. Forgive me. Rusty.
