In the area of Ca that I am leaving (central valley and east bay area), they are rarely on during the day. We play Poppy Ridge in Livermore for our twilight golf and you always know when it is 8pm as the sprinklers start coming on.
I don't mind, EXCEPT for the fact that the first zones to come on are near the green and the cart paths, some with no way to get around them, so you HAVE to go through the water or wait until it switches zones.
Last time I played, we had just rolled to a stop, waiting for our playing partner to hit and the zones switched and the sprinkler popped up right behind us, but pointed directly at us and the bags. We got soaked in a very short period of time. It's amazing how long it takes your body to react to something like that and then the cart to start moving when your foot is floored on the pedal when you are getting drenched.
