He's never been short on balls.......
"I'm under the understanding that I'm able to play."
I don't think the USGA cares. It's an open event. PGA Tour doesn't get a vote, right?
sdandrea1 And it is a 3-day weekend for us working folk.
HybridWood At your thought the US Open winner will be -12
sdandrea1 Right, my guess is the PGA has no say in the US Open.
HybridWood my guess is the PGA has no say in the US Open.
True, but they are partners so the USGA might support the PGA's stance. With that being said, I'd be surprised if the USGA refused exempted players.
HybridWood he should be able to play. Or change the name if it's no longer "Open"
azgreg Lawyers will even warn to be careful. 3 bodies in the US, PGA Tour, PGA and USGA. Only the PGATour is coming down on these dudes to date. The others, same with The Masters, can do what they want. Wasn't that long ago many were saying the PGATour should have their own rules, now they are friends???
No comment that I have seen from R&A crowd.
Bravopilot No comment that I have seen from R&A crowd.
Informal comments were that they could 'forget the Heritage events' from the R&A.
Tiger announced he is not playing the US Open as he wants to allow his body to heal up enough for The Open Championship.
Things coud be different, for 2023 quals, after all the USGA has slots for a number of tours arouind the world. Who knows they might offer an open slot to LIV..... I think LIV has to mature before that happens if ever.
Phil -8 to win the US Open
The course isn’t too far from me. I went to the tournament back when Curtis Strange won there. I also caddied there a few times when they needed caddies for their member guests amd asked my club for caddies.
I’m not going though… prices are stupid.

Martee I highly doubt Phil will ever win the US Open. He had two incredible chances; at Winged Foot he decided to try a hero shot from the trees instead of punching out, took a double, and lost by a single shot. Can't remember the venue, but who can forget him air-mailing the straightforward par 3 16th hole to take bogey and lose to Justin Rose by a single shot?
No, I really don't think Phil will ever reach the career Grand Slam.
