Tight tournament so far. Minjee Lee was one of my picks. She’s second as of now at -8.
The others were Jin Young Ko, Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson. Pine Needles is a nice Doland Ross course in North Carolina.

Very nice, old school renovation that looks like it would be fun to play. Great look.
Course looks great! I will try to play it the next time I am down that way. Really like watching the LPGA Tournaments. Great Golf!
No way could these gals beat that young girl, Lindblad.....IF, she had a short game. Holy moly is she horrible around the greens.
And still can win tomorrow!
Looking for Minjee Lee to hang on for the win today. Mina Harigae is 3 back and realistically has the best shot of catching Lee with the next best at 6 back behind Lee.
Minjee Lee can smoke the ball while Harigae relies on her accuracy being a shorter hitter.
Nice payday with the winner getting $1.8 million.
Interesting sponsor with a large payout, the winner gets $1.8M. Go to the sponsor website and you will be asked to donate a few times.
Bravopilot 2nd place also gets over $1M!! And, unheard of, those not making the cut all get $8K. Amateurs, of course, get zip, but I'm sure they got a few 'niceties'.
pellmell I know, she ain't the prettiest gal out there by any means. But, imo, this gal is one to watch in the near future. I don't think she will turn into another MW, where she changes her whole swing/game, and goes straight to hell. MW could have won a ton of tournaments, IF, she had paid no attention to anyone but Daddy. This Lindblad gal is something to watch when she goes after those Par 5 holes in 2. And generally makes it!
But, that short game......
I would think the PGA men should watch the LPGA, religiously, in order to learn how to hit straight/in the fw, off the tee. Why TF do they think they have to 'shape' every drive? Yesterday, I saw a couple of these gals hit over 300, mainly because they hit straight, and bounced/rolled like mad down the fw. Never see that in 6" grass.
These gals hit 'em straight.....and long!!
I've never been to the Pinehurst area (yet) but Pine Needles sure reminds me of two courses built on/around sand dunes and pine trees I have played.
Pine Dunes in Frankston TX and Pine Barrens near Brooksville, FL were both great experiences to play and deserving of their statewide rankings. The tall pines bordering the fairways with the winds whispering all the way around is special to me coming from the (sometimes) wide open, barren courses around the Midwest.
Lexi seems to love the 4th round of the Women's U.S. Open.
Every year.
No matter the course.
Played Pine Barrens many times. World Woods was bought by some outfit recently and both Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks will be closed for awhile.
They’re supposedly building a resort type facility there. That was the plan when the Japanese outfit originally built the courses. But that never came to fruition. Probably won’t be able to afford playing there anymore. Lol

FYI, the area is called the "Sandhills region". Pinehurst, Whispering Pines, Southern Pines, Aberdeen are all there within a few miles of each other. From our new house to Pine Needles golf course, straight line is 3.9 miles, but driving is just over 6 miles.
The men's and women's US Open will be back at Pinehurst #2 in 2024.
SVonhof - I was hoping to visit the area someday but my host had a pretty bad stroke a year ago and still hasn't fully recovered. He's now one of those that have experienced an Out of Body Experience when he was on the operating table. His "hobby" was running the pro shop in Southern Pines...The Home of American Golf as was his sign off on all correspondence. Time for me to check in on him to see if he's making progress.
Par4QC Felt sorry for Lexi today. Her mother was diagnosed with cancer this spring. Her grandmother, with whom Lexi was very close, passed away within the last couple of weeks. And of course the reporters had to shove last year's US Open finish down her throat on top of all that.
She is an extremely hardworking and gifted player. If she could putt, who knows how many wins she would have by now?

iirc, I've said it before....I remember watching her when she was barely a teen(maybe wasn't yet) when they showed the Amateur tournaments on TV, and she would be in the final 4. migawd, she was a horrible putter then & would have walked on the field every year, if only for the putter. Hell, she could have won on the LPGA at that time, if only she could putt. She is much better now, yet still lacking. Not sure what it would take for her to learn. May be a short-circuit...hand-eye-brain. Or, neither her or her caddy can read greens.
1 thing she definitely is, is way too deliberate, in all her actions/movements. That 'robot' BS needs to stop. Along with the uncertainty.....her needing to look at/ask her caddy for everything.
Yes, too bad about the family. I'm sure it was on her mind all week; maybe got to her today finally. Hopefully, she takes some time away.
scotts33 I'll say 90% of the tee shots I saw were almost dead straight. The ones that weren't, ended up on the PGA course in Ohio. FWs were fairly hard and some downhill. A lot of rolling along. Got several in trouble in those sandy areas, with the 'clumps'.
Irons shots were similar; not very often were they curving. Maybe because of a lot of those funky greens. Curve one in and hard telling where it might end. Short/straight worked best, from what I was seeing.
