Thanks KCee! I've still got that Dynacraft Prophet CB iron that you sent along with garyt1957. Have a set of them to build if I go back to double plane.

I am working on single plane as my left knee has taken a beating over the years and looking and working on a golf swing that will allow me to play into my 70's and 80's. From initial testing my left knee says yes to single plane. 👍

That's interesting, I have a feeling I will have to figure something like that out eventually too. I had (still have) some issues with my left ankle that definitely affect my swing and I am starting to feel the knees. I find I tend not to follow through well when the left knee and ankle are bothering me. I can get around with the irons (sort of stack & tilt), but not so much with woods.

I have found that the single plane minus Moe Norman's vertical drop down move is easy to execute, I wind up with an overall shorter swing and not much stress on my left knee. Plus I could execute single plane change from double plane and can get better at single plane playing rather than range time. Kirk's Setup for Impact makes it easy to understand and do. I can watch a video and easily learn the changes necessary. I have the mental make up to understand golf swing and make changes and it's done via set up rather than this body part needs to be here etc. during the swing. Divots display if execution is good with fairways, hybrid, irons and wedges.

My concern as a senior golfer with a 70ish iron swing speed is that I can’t see any club under 37 inches going 150 yards. Monday I hit 11 of 14 fairways at 200 to 225 and still found myself ( other than 1 hole) 150 or more yards out.

I would fall into that category at 73. The 4hy 20 deg. and 5hy 24 deg. are high COR heads that fit .335 hybrid graphite shafts that launch higher than .370 hence more distance and gaps covered better even at 70 mph mid-iron SS. 6i 28 deg. and 7i 32 deg. are also high COR heads. I've tested the old Sterling 5i high COR 23 deg. and it's total distance for me is 150.....this is now in cold Wisconsin spring weather 40's and 50's with a Callaway Super Soft. Tom Wishon has done a lot of work into distance gaps with various swing speeds. I would not suggest that lower mid iron SS players play over 6i with the EQ1-NX heads IMO. Also the single plane swing that I am working on factors into this which for me has a lower trajectory than my double plane swing. This is where fitting comes in to get it all correct.

My 150 club is now a 27 degree "6" hybrid.....and I'd better hit it good to get 150.

sdandrea1 If I had a '150' club, I'd be famous again. That distance just kills me. And I'm always right at it. It used to be an automatic 6i, now I can't find the right club, so I poke n' hope! FML😖

My 150 is a 24 degree "5" hybrid.....I don't even pay attention to whether it's called a 4, 5, or 6 anymore. I
just look at the loft and the yardage it gives me. Into a breeze, sometimes it's even my 26 degree 9 wood.
Almost embarrassing to haul out a wood to cover 150 yards.....unless I hit the green with it!! 🤣

I hear ya Rex, 150 is not a good distance for me either, especially in the summer when even a full PW is a bit much 😁

I built single length Sterling irons 36 5/8" 63 deg. which is a TLT Series #7 8i.

Alas I don't think I can keep doing a single plane swing as today I really put a lot of stress on my left knee and finished the round double plane lifting my left heel which is my normal double plane technique ie. Manuel de la Torre. I tried Venetos and Junge in an effort to relieve stress from left knee both seemed to work but as I used them more I think my old MDLT double plane swing with left heel lifted on the turn puts the least stress on my left knee.

Sarnella he tweeked his left knee, and lifting his left heel when he turns it doesn't bother his knee. Due to lifting the left heel, he will probably be going away from single length clubs... Translation as I understand it.

Conclusion I have come to is a swing has to match your body type. I have been working on a Hogan style left arm pipe stiff drop the club inside swing and it doesn’t work great for me. I’m a thick chest, shoulders and arms find of guy. A Nicklaus, Travino fade style swing fits me.

Ok let's see, 72 with bad knees, bad back, broken left arm and shoulder. I'm not sure if there is a swing for that. 😟 Maybe I need new clubs, yeah, that's the ticket. 😛

I've used my 5w from 150 before. Uphill shots where a long miss is OK and short is bad.

braveheart I am most comfortable with a slightly open stance. I’m about ready to give up trying for a draw that rarely seams to work out.
