Kinda agree with SMT. A way to sell clubs without sending out demos and an electronic game type gizmo. People today love electronic games

Same deal with Iphones that have tech that few know how to use.
Same deal with 20 band graphic equalizers on stereos that nobody but a sound engineer can use properly

SMT sorry, that machine you have pictured has its own technique to hit the bell. It definitely works better for the shorter people, as the mallet can impact the target squarely and transfer most energy to the weight. I ran one of those for a few weeks at a carnival years ago. I used to be able to ring it 4/5 times.

The last time I was in a Golf Galaxy they wouldn't allow you to use a simulator unless you were getting a fitting. You could hit balls in a bay without one for free. Edwin Watts still allows you to demo clubs using a simulator. I fit myself for clubs.

To answer the OP's question. I wouldn't pay to use a Trackman or any other radar device. If I were to take a lesson I would require both a radar device and video. That's the only way I'd pay for it.

Never used one. I'm kind of quirky and irrational when it comes to applying technology to hobbies. I don't really like the idea of using an analyzer even though it's not an on the course aid. Same way with fishing, I don't use depth finders, or at least haven't up to this point. Just got to be different I guess.

I do use a GPS, but that is because most courses seem to have eliminated yardage markers and sprinkler marks assuming that the players have some other means of checking yardage. If all courses still had clearly visible 150 yard markers like they did when I first started playing I would still just visually reference off of those. They all used to have a bush, post, or cement marker of some sort, but I seldom see them now.

I also use relatively modern equipment, but am toying with the idea of buying some 50 year old blades for the sake of nostalgia.

I can see why a lot of people poo-poo launch monitors. They are afraid of the truth… seriously. Everyone thinks they hit it further, they have no idea what good height is.
A couple people I had yesterday. One guy is a senior with a 12 degree M2 and a stiff shaft. Hit almost everything low and to the right. His ball speed is 122, he hits it 9 yards high. Carries it 150. Rolls out to 200. If he hits the rough though he is screwed… it’ll be a 160 yard tee shot. He tells me he hits it 230🙄.

I end up putting him in a 12 degree draw head with a regular flex lower kick 45 gram shaft and he was hitting it 24 yards high and everything was down the middle with a little draw and was rolling out to 220-230 with an 8 mph in ball speed. He was carrying it 200 now. His launch angle also went from 4 degrees to 10. He says to me “oh, that’s too high”. I told him no and explained what height you’re supposed to have.

Another guy tells me he hits his driver too high. I have him hit amd it comes up at 28 yards high. Good for his swing speed. He was amazed, he had no idea what the proper height was or looked like. That being said his spin was too high so I put him in a pretty much stock set up and his height stayed the same but less spin that gave him 20 yards.

Typhoon I realize it is your job to move product, but that 1st guy could have just used the right shaft and got those results!!

TM heads....I was shocked as to how high I would hit the SIM Max last year. No longer than other heads, but damn, that launch!!

I think launch monitors are great fitting tools. The downside is they might tell me what the optimal fit is for me and I wouldn't have an excuse to experiment with different clubs. 😂

I might have said that before, unless its a bay set up by Trackman for Trackman then forget it. When they set it up there is enough room and it works. Other than that, taking the unit indoors it doesn't work as well. There IS an indoor mode you can select but its still not good... there is never enough room.

Simulators are different...most are just for a fun round of golf. Not really hard core launch monitor

There is a segment of the golf population who view it as real golf. I don't....I view it as entertainment that has very little to do with how I do on the course. I played sim golf all winter. It took the same adjustment period after getting on the real course before my game came back. Why, because the course has real grass, wind, rain, temperature, uphill, downhill, sidehill lies, greens with slope that must be putted, etc. That can't be mitigated in a square room where there is 0 pressure to pull off a shot. Too many folks think it's real. That being said, IF I were a fitter I'd utilize as much tech as I saw fit. I'd also want the golfer.to be able to then apply what we've learned OUTDOORS on a course and then comeback and discuss. I view some of these "fitters" as salesmen, not fitters.
