Robert Garrigus has requested a release from the PGA Tour to play in the LIV Golf Invitational, scheduled for June 9-11 at the Centurion Club in London.
Saudi League Player?
I bet a lot of Korn Ferry players are hoping more of these older players jump, more openings for them.
No knock on Garrigus, but if that is the level of talent the Saudi League is going to attract, it probably won't be around for very long. Not sure who is going to watch it and or who is going to be willing to advertise during the events with the backlash the League has already gotten.
In retrospect, I think Michelson is right about the Tour. It, and I include the R&A, Euro-tour and all other tours the PGA sponsors, is a de facto monopoly who could use some healthy competition to force it to improve its policies and actions. Just because it has a player advisory board doesn't mean its not a monopoly in principle. They quashed Norman's attempt and now maybe this one. MLB has a national and an American League, so why not golf. It would break apart the Tour's monopoly, maybe for the better.
