Softer flex iron shafts

Gotta say with my smooth tempo I’m a huge fan. Enough that if I were to get another set of irons I’d be sure to get fit. We had a guy drop off his i500 irons with xp95 shafts in regular flex a few weeks ago. I hit them on the GCQuad launch monitor and was piping them. Launch was actually lower than with stiff, perfect height and decent angle, felt ultra smooth and I could feel the kick. Ball went forever. Today I hit my pro’s set of Mavrik irons he picked up at the golf expo… same xp95 r300 shafts. I took 2 swings and just love the kick. Took a normal swing and got 9 mph more ball speed and all the other numbers were perfect. Spin was a bit on the low side but I expected that, no worries.

You can’t just go by clubhead speed when choosing shaft flex.

Happens all the time. Freddie Couple's old L-flex fairway wood, you and me ---- on the warm up range in Myrtle, the only wood I could use due to lack of range depth, was my wife's Rogue 7w... Piped 10 straight with baby draw. 🙃👍

LBlack14 I just want to be able to do it with a real professional like Frank. He has much more knowledge and experience than I do. It’ll be a learning experience for me to see if he comes up with what I come up with.

It's about release early-medium-late and shaft profile with shaft weight. Club head speed mid-iron can be leading one down the wrong path and that's what a lot of golfers do rely on mid-iron club head speed and don't factor in release. I am sure we all have gone over this in the past.

Anyone still use Mizuno’s Shaft Optimizer? I was fit for iron shafts several years ago and it recommended heavy stiff steel.😏

Having chronic elbow problems that was a non starter. Had to veto the recommendation and go with stock regular flex graphite. Never looked back.

Sneakylong I used it years ago. My numbers came up that I release the club early, which I do somewhat so their recommendations were all over the board which makes the fitting even more important.

As do 90%+ of all golfers in the realm of golf. It's about the release early-mid-late and transition time to fit the shaft weight and shaft profile for a particular shaft.

Yeah, the fitter said the weight for me was the important thing with the Mizuno fit. He then recommended heavy stiff graphite. Vetoed that one also.😏
