I think you nailed it here, for me, I find the back tees to be a bit easier if anything because I don't have to think as much about what to hit off the tee. I smack the driver and go get it, generally though it leaves a full shot into a green which I find easier than touch shots. It's a short game issue for one, but also the difference in many courses is less than 30 yards in a tee set. While that may mean something to a guy where that means they have to play driver to carry this or have a long iron into that, it's nothing more than a choice between a 3/4 wedge vs a full PW or maybe 9 iron on a typical par 4 for someone with length off the tee. Unless I'm having a super off or ON day, my scores will be basically the same thing no matter where I play from on generally any course. At the end of it all, if my short game is there, I can score, if not, it doesn't matter. The real difference in tee positions that I notice are par 3s, back me upto 200+ yards there and I'm probably going to miss the green, so I have to get up and down, that's where there can be a difference. That said, I have a mental issue with Par 3s, show me 170 from a fairway and I think I can stick it, off a tee, I'm nervous and over thinking it.. already lost the game!
