Exciting golf, on occasion, can reap due rewards. One of my more memorable rounds happened several years ago. Only managed to hit 3 greens that day (greens were rather small, compared to modern day greens on newer courses). Shot 75.
I mean, missing 15 greens isn't something one boasts about, unless he shoots 75. At our level anyway. Chipped and putted like a mad man. One of those days where the usual post-round analysis really isn't applicable....
But probably, looking back on it... the best round I ever played was in Ireland. Portmarnock golf club, Dublin, Ireland... and the wind had to be a constant 45+ mph that day, steady wind at that... one of those rounds where you had to "yell" at the guy walking beside you, amidst casual conversation in the fairway just so he could hear what you were saying.
I shot 89 that day. One of the par3's measured 165 yards, wind against... I hit driver and just barely made the front fringe. Approximately 30 minutes later - another par3 measuring 190 yards. I hit 9-iron through the green and into the back bunker. Links golf, nothing like it.
Fun day!
