I think this is probably right. However, there must be a lot of money at stake for him to sell his soul to be in bed with the Saudis (LIV Investments).
If this was his leverage tactic I heard one commentator say Phil is more Freddo than Michael Corleone. Lol
Why hasn’t Phil taken his grievances to the PGA thru the players policy board? He’s never volunteered to be on the board. Why not try to make changes from within before going to war with the PGA Tour by taking the side of a potential competitor?
It seems some of his grievances are being addressed. The one he’s mentioned is Media rights. In other professional sports the organizations own the copyrights / licenses. One could argue that the players own the PGA Tour, but I don’t see the PGA Tour giving individuals media rights.
Hearing from some of the players at the recent meeting, the money expected in the near future the top players will rival NBA players.
It’s also been reported that Phil in his career has earned ~ $100 million in purses and ~ $900 million off the course. Plus I believe I heard his PGA pension is worth ~$250 million.
