Anyone still game either a long putter or a belly putter these days ? The STIX belly putter still feels nice and I miss it more since It's ban from competit...

Nope.
Dumped the broom method (#@&% U USGA & membership) when the rule changed.

Well documented @ FGI, I went to a broom for back reasons, not because I could not putt. The transition had no downside other than the comments of people until they saw the results.

I caught s*it when I went to a broom and decided I was not going through the scrutiny of using it after the rule change.

The SeeMore putter and method rocks even though I cannot practice for long periods of time.

Pot, I have been gaming a Seemore for @ 2years.
Read the line, line up my ball (logo/line), make sure that I don't see the red dot, take the strokel, hold your breath @ 18'...either you smoked the cup or in.
I have never had more confidence than with this.

I'm a fairly good putter, Bettinardi, Yes, Wishon all perform well.
The SeeMore, my go to.

I agree 100% with the SeeMore.
I bought a used one plus the video. I tried the system, it worked, and makes sense.
The ball position, which had been an issue for me, is now always the same.
I had trouble with the red dot at one point and could not figure it out until looking at the video.
Standing at address I would take one last look down the line and before putting the dot was no longer covered. My head / eyes were not level.
Fantastic customer service. They helped me get fitted, started with the online fitting, and I’m very happy with it.

mainuh The 43" STX mid S.S.7 still finds the true line best regardless of how I feel that day.

I can putt with just about any putter, however, some will work better when I'm at my best. The 43" really only have to worry about the distance, lining up and follow through is just so easy.

I tried a Cameron broom like Adam Scotts model when he was winning a lot.
Caught hell from my buddies about high $$$ club (I bought cheap used from Pro in
Pinehurst)
Short putts were deadly but never could get distances right on longer ones
Which I seem to have more of...
For some unknown reason ???
Sold it before ban only lost $30 for the experiment
Thougt about cutting off the shaft to 32" but didn't want to bend angle
Found old but nice Baby Ben normal length center shaft I'll probably always play from now on with same kind of shape and alignment aids as the Scotty but it has nicer feel, look, and sound to me than any putter I've tried . I'm a face balanced mallet guy
Not that it cures any putting deficiencies, I just like it

Pro, I had a Baby Ben, center shaft.
God knows how but somehow it got lost.
It was the Bettinardi model iirc.
Great putter, miss it.

Using a TM Daddy Long Legs Counterbalance putter but using it almost like I did when I gamed a belly length putter. I'm holding my top hand at the top of the grip as I would a regular length putter and my bottom hand near the bottom of the grip and kind of saw grip style. My stroke is pendulum with my shoulders and I'm not anchored anywhere.

Used a belly putter for almost 3 full seasons but went back to conventional when the ban was announced. Actually feel like my stroke improved due to the belly use and translated into better putting with conventional. Very happy with my Ping Craz-e IWI I picked up on FGI in the waning days there. Gotta give a shout out to the Seemore, though. Used a couple over the years and liked em both.

Same exact issue I had with the Futura Long. from 10' I would putt against Nicklaus in his prime, but after 15', I might as well be using my driver.

For better distance control with the long putters. Need to find the optimal lower hand position.
By that I mean to find a position so the lower hand would not "interfere" with swing motion of the putter.
Too high would get unsteady going back and if the lower hand is too low then stretching going through often pushing the putter.
How you hold the grip with the lower hand also has a lot to do if the putter could go through the contact.
If there is no wiggle going back and through the putting stroke. Then better distance control is achievable for the longer range..

Tried going back to conventional putting, but was not matching what I was doing with the longer putter anchored. So I decided to experiment to determine length and weight of an upright legal putter that I could use in a similar manner without anchoring.

End result was a center shafted Maltby CNC CSS701 head 360 gram. I have always liked this head as it is carbon steel and for my purpose has a fairly rounded sole. My goal was to set the putter up with a 10 lie (to be legal) and then actually putt with my eyes directly over the ball - meaning the putter would have the heel of the putter up at 10. I used a straight long shaft I had on hand and trimmed so that my putter is 39.5" in length - 17" round grip. Fashioned my own adapter using a 3/8 bolt to create the exact angle desired.

I putt one hand at the top without anchoring and the other hand down the shaft and use a pendulum stroke. I am putting better with this than I did with an anchored putter. I putt with an open stance, head directly over the ball and a great view of the line.

Release I mimic Nicklaus for that very reason. I learned to play golf by watching him. I putt quite a bit like him and have always putted well. I tried a long putter for "why not". It has advantages short putting, but never spent the time to work long putting out. I use a 32"-33" putter and face balanced mallets with a Darby or curved back style have always putted best for me

Nicklaus's putting style will not transfer to the anchored long putters well.
Problem is not able to produce a free flow putting stroke with the long anchored putters, thus difficult to control the distance without a free flowing putting stroke.

I go back to the Nicklaus putting style mostly when using the heel shafted blade putters or when I could not see the line well for that day. As the man said himself, have to pay extra attention to the line of the follow through .

Yes, in that regard.
But how many golfers do we know personally play golf strictly by the rules ? How many tee shots will one wait for the other golfer while he o.b. several already.
A common sight of water hazards fronting a green these days is there are designated "drop " area so golfers don't need to play be the rules and risk of another water ball to delay the play.

If I like to play the belly putter next month, I'll just bag it. I'm old enough to not let others bother my decision. Who cares anyway ? I'm not playing a sanctioned tournament so I could carry 16 golf clubs in the bag or just 8.

Have some fun is the goal, it reminds me of the first couple of years I played golf. None of us were good golfers and we observed the majority of the rules but certainly not all....... I was told by the others that was the best time they had ever experienced .

I tend to agree with those that golf and could care less about some of the arrogance and stupidity of the USGA. However, I play in a group that always has a game going. Everyone plays by the rules of golf during the season and specific "winter rules" this time of year. I enjoy golf far more this way than everyone taking liberties. Some guys always seem to want to push the bubble when you take "liberties." That is fine if there is no game, but I like the pressure and the competition of a small wager and reward of doing well and the pressure of doing my best.

I know golfers will push the bubble before they even teed off.
The negotiation is some sight to see, they'll throw in a recent injury, arthritis flair up, negotiating to play from a different set of tee then the rest, So many ways to sand bag it's not even funny. I quit playing with one group simply because I ran out of patience listening to all the excuses..... but they do play by the "rules" after the negotiation for strokes and which set of tee to play from. Modified rules like putts given within the leather,,, however, measured by the player's putter, so a 36" putter has a clear advantage to a 32"... another reason I won;t play with them since they like to put a few $ on the game.
I hate to open my wallet before I even teed off.
