Alabama and Clemson are the two best. Please do not mention Penn State. Their overall record was behind Ohio State and I don't believe PSU would have scored against either.

IF Clemson can eliminate the turnovers they made against OSU, I think they can beat Alabama. I think Alabama has a slightly better defense than Clemson, but Clemson's offense is much better than Alabama's offense.

I agree. It's gonna come down to which team shows up ready to play and makes the big plays without turning the ball over. Alabama ain't unbeatable, but I do (like most everyone else) have them slightly favored.

More than anything else, I just hope to see a close, entertaining game, whoever wins.

The right two teams are in the championship game. The committee did get it wrong with Ohio State, the game with Clemson wasn't even as close as the score. Penn State may not have beaten Clemson but they did earn the right to play them where as Ohio State did not.
My solution is to limit the number of East Coast representatives on the committee. They have an unrealistic view of the quality of teams outside their orbit of experience.

Alabama's QB is their Achilles Heel. Clemson has to be able to overcome the Tide's great defense to win. Alabama has to be favored, but this year I think Clemson has a better chance than last year.

Alabama QB and RB seem to be able to make big run plays out of nothing....Other than that, Im not impressed with their offense. There d is where it's at, truly a great team defense.

Clemson surprised me tonight with a tenacious defense against a darn good Ohio State offense. Urb is also a good "Xs" and "Os" coach and Clemson had an answer for every thing they tried. I don't think Alabama's D will intimidate Watson.

I too am hoping for an entertaining game with some big plays due to a missed assignment or missed tackles. Alabama is the hands down favorite until somebody steps up and beats them.

I agree the two best teams are going to battle for the crown.
I just wish USC hadn't gotten off to such a crappy start. 🙁
But once they found a legit QB in freshman Sam Darnold,
the Trojans can hang with anybody now!

Clemson is going to win. Alabama's offense spends almost as much time going backward as they doing going forward. Too many stupid errors.

If the Clemson that played last night plays Bama, Saban and his boys will have their hands full. I don't have that much faith in that Clemson showing up given how inconsistent they have played this year.

I dunno, I saw a few Clemson games that were way too close this year against unranked teams. To me, Bama is going to roll right over Clemson.

Umfaan other than Bama, Ohio St. Had the best resume. Just because they got trounced by Clemson does not mean that didn't deserve it, nor does head to head, nor does winning the conf championship. The committee picked the 4 best teams, and for all we know Penn St may have lost by a bigger margin, but that would not have meant they didn't deserve it.

Kinda like starting ahead at a major golfing tournament and still managing to hold on to end up winning
I thought Washington was bigger worry than Clemson with their passing game
but Tigers showed everyone that they were a fearsome team last night blanking a great team

JMO... but barring a playoff concept that involves 12-16 teams competing for the national championship, there will always be some level of controversy regarding the legitimacy of the process. Lots of arguments to be made either way... very subjective.

But based on how it used to be, I think we all agree that (even if certain biases still linger) it's still a much more legitimate process than it was in the past.

PA-PLAYA I don't know that this year's outcome is a very good argument that the new system is better.

Think about it. If there were no playoff this year, we would get to see Alabama versus Clemson for the championship, anyway, and we would have been spared two pretty boring games. Outcome would've been the same, without so much trouble.

Just because the old system might've gotten it right in this particular scenario doesn't equate to a consistent pattern. A broken watch is right two times per day.

PA-PLAYA I agree with you. I think the playoff idea is superior. I'm just saying that this year doesn't really provide proof of concept. That's all.

Some of us hope this "playoff/system" is the prelude to a real playoff, something that could rival and dare I say surpass March Madness....4 teams have a chance of 128 to win it all....that's ridiculous...and it used to be 2....why anyone would advocate for that system, is hard to phathom.
