So I will be getting a new driver in the next few weeks. I have been using Cobras for years now, going back to the Fly-Z. So that is probably my first option...

I actually used one of those in my younger days and it worked well for me at the time. I once installed a purple and yellow one in a Bang Mellow Yellow driver head and my wife said, "No way are you taking that out in the public." 🤣

I miss Tim H's old site that used to frequency shafts so you could compare and figure out which shafts had similar playing characteristics. I think there is a current site that requires an annual subscription, but I forget it's name.

If you are looking for something more modern, I believe some have had success with the Fujikura Pro 2.0...

Ok so it's been a LONG time since the original post here. And alot has happened since then. I ended up acquiring a TSI3 driver. I demoed several at a PGA Superstore, and on a launch monitor with their fitter, it was the best of the sticks I hit. I bought it with a Tensei white and I also have a Limey 540 in the rotation. I'm not sure which one I really hit better, because they both seem to work very well for me. I have an Excaliber T6* I could also use, but I actually think it's a little too tip stiff for my liking or for my performance. I don't see much difference between the Tensei and the Limey. The Limey is definitely flashier, but distances and trajectories are very similar.

Cliff at Custom Club Shop had a lot of his demos with that shaft in them.
Most were too stiff, even for me, in Reg flex, swinging at over 100 mph.
My buddy went with a yellow with blue accent Harrison Striper in his Mellow Yellow, with yellow grip.

New ProForce Gold 65g are a much less stiff shaft profile than the OG. I "fit" the new version "R". OG ProForce Gold I had no chance with even when younger.

It's again why there are no standards in golf industry shaft flex.

I have 2 original PF Gold 65 shafts in Vectrax 3&5 woods(Ping ISI-ish).

I must be the odd man out. I put a ProForce Gold 65 in the first driver I ever assembled (circa 2003). I intentionally went with regular flex based upon info from FGI and other sites at the time, and it played like a regular flex shaft for me. My swing speed back then was 95 - 100 back then. I liked the shaft, but instead of moving up a flex in that one, I joined the FGI shaft ho club and tried out the “hot” new stuff at the time.

scotts33 Somewhat ashamed to say I don’t know. Generally a low ball hitter (couldn’t get carry with anything less than 10 degrees) and bad misses were left, which were accentuated by the regular flex. Don’t have that problem now with my age reduced swing speed. I still miss left, but it is usually a pull caused by little lower body engagement and flex doesn’t affect it.

johnnydoom Fitting correctly factors are swing stats. club head/ball speed, transition time and release early-mid-late. Those stats. with shaft weight and shaft profile with playing length and heft match yield a well fit club.

Misses right-left have a lot to do with heft match and manipulating face. Majority of golfers manipulate the face and most don't know they do it. It's one fitting variable that 95%+ don't even factor in. This is why you go on a simulator and one time hit it well displays good performance and the next time it looks like crap. One time you manipulate face better then next time you don't. Indoors it may look good go outdoors it doesn't. Visual perception. Best players get a better repeatable move on the ball with a more stable face. It's how major brands market clubs and that is not fitting.
