Since I’m huddled into a small portion of couch due to the remodel I thought I’d post this.
All my clubs are cleaned scratches removed and ready to sell so I don’t bring anything to indoor golf. I hit whatever is there, usually the pro’s Titleist hollow headed MB irons with a Nippon 880 amc shaft. Funny thing is I don’t hit it high enough. I carry it 170 with a 7 iron but don’t like my often 46 degree decent angle because it’s only 75-80’ high. Maybe the lead tape on his irons is a culprit.
Last night a guy had Ping i500 irons with a regular flex xp95 shaft. I hit his 8 iron and took a picture of the numbers. I compared it to the Trackman PGA tour averages. Interesting…
So I was 3 mph slower with both clubhead and ball speed.
My launch angle(18.3), decent angle(50degrees)and height (94’)were the same
My spin rate was 2000 rpm less
My carry distance was 12 yards further.
Trackman only shows carry distance, I only had 2.5 yards of roll…so I was stopping the ball just fine.
No idea how old the Trackman charts. A modern 8 iron for me matches up pretty good with the chart 8 iron from who knows when. What sticks out is it seems spin kills distance. But as long as you have decent angle, the ball stops fine. Trackman didn’t show rollout but it would seem with 2000 rpm more spin, the ball would back up. For me,It rolled just under 9 feet… I’ll take that.
I think I mentioned in another thread what bothered me about fitting people for irons, especially older people, was them spending thousands for clubs that were not going to help them.
