I just got a call from the collision company regarding my wife's vehicle that was in an accident at the end of January. it's been in the collision center for about two weeks.

This slick talking Texas hick calls up telling me "we have an issue with your car".

He proceeds to tell me the work they did killed the battery and he wanted to know if I wanted to have the battery replaced. Tells me it's 180 some dollars but he'll change it for 130.

Of course, I ask him why I'm paying for a battery he just admitted his shop killed? He tells me it was semantics and this battery would've died in our driveway if it wasn't in his shop. I called BS on that.

Man, I was getting a little elevated and told the guy there's no way I want him replacing the battery. He tells me he didn't want me stranded on the side of the road on the way home and he was just trying to help me.

Finally, I told him there's no way I should bring my car in to have it fixed and then have you tell me I need a new battery. There wasn't any issue with this battery when it went in there. He also told me they change them all the time. Right, because it's their way of making extra on the side. The odds that a battery is at end of life and it just so happens to coincide with being in their shop is, well, "interesting".

In the end, he says... You know what, I don't want this to be like this, so I'll just replace it for you and I'll eat the cost and asked me how that sounded after saying he'd go halfsies. I didn't even respond to his offer of going half as he just realized his con job was no sale to me and he capitulated with the free offer. He then asked me to make sure I gave him a great survey because he took such great care of me.

That fricking con-artist tried screwing me and wants a great survey?

No doubt in my mind he's putting an old battery in there and not the $180 unit he was trying to sell me on. I'm going to have it tested to see exactly what he stuck in there.

My wife had been handling all of this as it is her car, but she couldn't deal with it today so I got involved. She would've just handed the 180 over to him and not thought twice about it. This is the same place who told the insurance there was 2k worth of damage and then days later came back and said there was 2k more as the radiator needed replacing. Probably put a junkyard radiator in and pocketed the insurance money. Scumbags!
