I saw this headline and the first thought I had was @"Par4QC hit the jackpot!

What's been your best find while hitting the thrift shops and garage sales?

My only home run was finding a 7 wood, with head cover,that matched the Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead 3+ and 5 already in my bag. $5 at a charitable fundraiser thrift sale at my church.

Years ago, when I was working the Sat. shift, I'd have Mondays off. Every Monday, I'd hit up all the Goodwill & Salvation Army stores in the QC. Made a few memorable purchases, all for $1/club. Sold several sets of irons for $250+. After all these years, I'm still way ahead of them. I never kept any because it was always winter when I'd find them. Money keeps a fella warm. 😄

I quit going around after I found out some guy was going in and just buying up the whole damn lot of everything, every store. I'll bet ya he's not ahead of the game. Although he did grab a brand new set of Mizzys 1 time, with plastic still on. I know because he never took the box, and I asked wth the clubs were.

I walked into the local PIAS 4-5 years ago, just because, and saw an Odyssey Rossie II in brass instead of the usual satin finish. I took it out of the bag and set it down in the playing position, and it looked PERFECT....nice and square!
They had $12 on it, and I walked up to the counter and said "Will you take $10 bucks for this putter?" They
accepted, and I've been using it ever since! Unfortunately, that store went out of business when the pandemic
hit.

Not golf related but I answered a newspaper ad around 1969 - 71 that said "Cherry colored guitar w/hard shell case $20" and I brought home a Gibson SG Special with hard shell case, strap, and a couple sets of new strings ..... for $20

But this is a golf forum so I did answer a Swap Sheet ad 10+ yrs ago for a Scotty Cameron Putter $10 or $15 that was covered in rust, it looked like it had been used for a tomato stake. Picked up some Coke and began a soak-it, scrub-it routine until it came clean & found I had a Scotty Sante Fe with original grip & shaft band that is in my bag today.

I have a Mizuno Scotty Cameron M-100 that came in a rodent eaten golf bag full of shitty rusted clubs last year. Someone dropped off the bag at the pro shop. I happened to notice and took it. I had to sand off the rust with a dremel. Now I’m going to sell it for whatever…

Except Papa D would have moved on to numerous other options!! I admit that I have "tried" a few others in
the last few years.....but my trials have lasted a round or two at best, and then Rossie has been welcomed
back into the bag!

I should have included this part as well. When I showed up with $20 in my hot little hands, the husband (guitar playing son moved away & they didn't know where he went) asked me "know anyone who would want this? .he showed me a similar Gibson bass with hard shell case for another $20. Called my bass player, told he where I was & insisted he come get it 'cause I didn't have another $20

I guess both stories sounds like the "54 Corvette found under hay in a barn" stories but both are seriously true.

I looked into Scotty doing it, having them do a COA as well and I just didn’t want to get into the $$ to have it done and then turn around and TRY to sell it. If I had it done and sold it, I’d be lucky to make $100…. If I do nothing and sell it I’ll make more.

I’d rather have some collector or guy living in his grandmothers basement take it off my hands. I took the rust off so it didn’t look like an impossible task.

Mine has a unique Mizuno “M” on the bottom that all the psycho’s were talking about. I sent a picture to Scotty and they said some were done with that M. Probably makes it more rare but at that point I had it up to here dealing with either clueless shitheada making dumb comments or self proclaimed Scotty aficionado’s asking dumb ass questions that I had to keep emailing Scotty about.

I think the best I ever came up with was some of the Srixon Forged irons, Ollie’s bargain Outlet had them $149 for a full set, brand new, I bought the 5 sets they had and flipped them all. Did pretty well on those. I got some great deals on random shit at a Dick’s Sporting Goods clearance center too. As they got ready to shut down, I picked up all sort of stuff for pennies on the dollar. Got a bunch of “Perfect Club” hybrids for $7 each, flipped a bunch of those too and played 2 for a while. At the time I basically maxed out my cards to be able to flip them and have some extra income, it was great.

My best deal was probably at a flea market. Picked up a set of PING Eye 2 irons 3-W maching serials for $25.

sdandrea1 I did the same thing, but it was at a garage sale. They still had the original grips on them and didn't need new ones! I figure they were probably only played for maybe a dozen rounds.

I also picked up a beautiful Ping Zing 2 putter for five bucks at a garage sale.

Finally, a set of TM irons 4-PW for $45. My eldest son is currently gaming those irons.

Jeez, guess I need to start frequenting some of these second hand franchises. I’ve come across a few things over the years, but the only thing I can remember buying like that was some brand new balata balls I found while rifling thru an old ragged golf bag at our annual 100 mile yard sale. I did find an old Taylormade 360 Ti driver awhile back at a flea market for, and I shit you not, $12, but I passed on it. The shaft felt like rebar, and it was stiff graphite.
