gllama I picked up a 10.5* Titleist 975D driver at a garage sale recently for $5. I had one years ago and remember that it was long and felt great, almost like a persimmon driver. I’ve taken this driver out for four rounds now and am blown away how long and accurate this old driver is. I currently play a Cobra Amp Cell and the 975D has consistently been 10 to 15 ( or more) yards longer. Not sure what is going on but I like it. Great feel and I can work the ball much better than the larger head Amp Cell. On one drive I hit the 975D 270 yards which for a 65 year old fart is pretty damn good. Anyone else still playing an older driver?
shokosugi gllama You must be hitting the sweet spot and if you are the distance isn't surprising. I actually made a mini driver out of one as its essentially a giant 3 wood. I love the feel and it is easy to work but alas even at a 43" playing length, I still needed the forgiveness of a newer head
gllama shokosugi You are right about the sweet spot. I’ve been hitting my driver really great lately. The distance I’m getting from the 975D is surprising. It’s got the stock Titleist shaft. Yesterday, I hit it on a par 4 hole that’s 327 yards. I had 60 yards left to the pin. I’ve never a drive that far on this hole with any of my other drivers except maybe the Adams 9088UL. Maybe I’m getting a lot of roll out.
wishbone I've got one I picked up a few years back, loved it, but at 8* and a stiff shaft, I don't have the game for it anymore. Maybe I should pick up a "new to me" one that fits my specs. Also always wanted, never had, a 983k. Decisions, decisions
wishbone Par4QC I hadn't either, mine was the 8.5, but at least according to second swing, they have 10.5. Haven't seen the 12
Mattyv I have an 8.5° I take with me to an executive course I play with my son. Plenty ling and very straight only issue is that it comes out low. Fun club to mess around with.
Par4QC Mattyv If you really want fun with that club, stick an 80+ gr., stiff/xstiff shaft in it. You'll get some 'land mileage' from your drives. If you play in wind, like we have here, it's like a calm day. Just don't try going over trees. Or bushes, for that matter. 😅
Eguller I think I still have an 11.5* Titleist 975D if anyone is interested...Just PM me and I'll check it out. LOVED the OG 975D in 9.5
braveheart The mere mention of this driver makes me smile. I have an 9.5 that I used to hit bombs with. Very small sweet spot that if you catch it right will get you out there. Just not as forgiving as today’s heads. Should be in the driver hall of fame.
