Tinker Typhoon your right on. I feel the same about sl irons. The question is why are manufacturers producing nothing but irons designed for higher swing speeds? I’m 67 and play most of my golf with my son in law and his 30 to 40 year old friends. Truth be told most don’t have much if any more swing speed than me. They mistake swinging wild and hard for swinging properly and fast. Is this who the manufacturers are designing for? They go to a retail store and hack away while the so called fitter ignores 10 bad shots trying to find one good one. The longest decent one he finds he assumes is the right fit. I have seen it
And people are clueless enough to think that's OK. Manufacturers just bank on people's stupidity because you are right, these new irons work when you have the swing speed. Irons now are designed to be low spin and use decent angle to stop the ball on the green. One of my charts from Ping matches up decent angle, launch angle, ball speed and height. never once did I fit someone who lined up with all 4 categories.
From my experience, most people need a higher spinning ball. Its good that you see this. And what you see with your SIL and his 30-40 year old friends are they type of people out there just recklessly buying shit that won't help them.
Funny story,,, I;m at the range here one day and a 2 groups are there and they are going out to play.. excuse me, they said ' gonna do some shootin". A couple of them had the buckets of 40 Nitro balls from Dicks Sporting goods. Now I here one guy saying he hits his 3 iron over the net at 250. I saw him, he sucks... I soooo much wanted to walk over and say, " i heard you say you hit 3 iron over the net.. can you show me?" But then the other chuckleheads are saying , I can do that dude, I hit my 9 iron like almost 200... and I'm watching them and its just God Awful. Now if one of them came to golf galaxy, I could sell them a new set of irons in a half hour that would do nothing for them except for them to say, " dude I got new clubs, you're all done now..."😂
