I have watched this play again and again and again, ad infinitum. And same as last night, my first takeaway is "damn, that's a tough call!" It really is. I know "tie" goes to the receiver. But the video does show that there was no tie. Cooks did not "complete the catch" as the ball was moving, even if ever so slightly. The ball never hit the turf. The defensive back secured it and completed the catch.
Likewise, the official called it as an interception.
By rule regarding challenges and replay, there must be clear evidence to overturn the original call.
Done deal. Appropriate call.

Now, that is a topic that's separate and distinct as it relates to the officiating of OPI or DPI. Those damn officials allowed for "hand-fighting" for three quarters. (That's honestly the way I like to see the game played.) But then... just the opposite of what I'd term "typical- that only egregious fouls get called toward the end of the game, this game?! Those were some chickenshit penalties.

But, did we not know the calls were going to come late in the game?....hell yeah, we did. Just wasn't sure as to which side they'd be positive.

That's how I saw it. Neither had possession at ground and since the ball never touched the turf it was sort of a "continuing joint reception" ending with Denver.

Marinos comp % was at best middle of the pak vs contemporaries like Elway, Aikman and Montana.
Back in Namath and Bradshaw days, defenses could beat the crap out of receivers. That changed bf Marino got in the league.

I knew I should have clarified that. I was just pointing out how two HoF QB's of a different era had such low completion %. My bad for being lazy and not typing more.
Now let's take a look at some Marino contemporaries:

Looks to me like Marino is right there in 4th place. Far from "middle of the pack"

Not that far. Also, Steve Young was at 64. Kinda indicates West Coast system was the winning way.
Surprised to see Favre was at 62 given his interception stats.
