MartinD And yes, I agree that Eli Manning should not be elected to the Hall of Fame - 'pretty good for a long time with occasional stretches of brilliance' falls short of what's needed in my opinion.)
This has been discussed / debated before. My opinion is the same. Eli gets in for his two Super Bowl wins against two very, very good Patriot teams. He took down Tom twice.
There were two plays that won those games. In the first Super Bowl they had him sacked. They literally had his shirt in their hands. But he got loose and Tyree made the iconic catch on his head with Harrison draped all over him.
Btw the Giants that year were a wild card team finishing 8-8.
In the other Super Bowl. He made a great throw late in the game to Manningham tip toeing down the sideline. Two iconic throws that won both Super Bowls. The first Super Bowl he kept the Patriots from going 20-0.
So he gets in because of that.
Similarly Joe Namath gets in for putting the AFL on the map with one of the greatest upsets in professional 'sports' history. Never mind just Football.
Also, Namath badly hurt his knees at Alabama. Before that he had excellent mobility. Could never really run after that. Had to have weekly treatment on his knees throughout his Pro career.
Plus he was my favorite QB growing up. And that counts for a ton. lol These debates are subjective like many sports debates.
