I agree - given how Darnold has played this season, the Vikings should want to bring him back (and have a guaraneed option to do so, through the franchise tag). Nothing is certain, though, and the Vikings do have what appears to be a viable (and cheap!) alternative in McCarthy.
100 times Darnold's current deal is a bit unlikely, though - he's on a decent high-end backup deal at $10m for the year. A billion-dollar contract for a player is probably not all that far away (although more likely to be for a baseball player than handed out by an NFL franchise), but something of the order of $200m with most of that guaranteed is definitely a possibility.
