I'm still young (28) but I've always had exceptional vision - better than 20/20.
Using computers/smartphones all the time had the effect of making your eyes lazy, since they end up fixed on something that is close to you for so many hours at a time. The advice to look away and focus on something far away for a moment as frequently as possible is real. It keeps your eye muscles spry.
At traffic lights I always read signs and license plates at the greatest distances I can. Every little bit helps.
My wife, ironically, can't see a thing! She had some condition when she was young that led to her brain only using information from one eye, primarily. They both work, but it's as if she gets no information from her right eye unless her left is closed. It's wacky. Her depth perception is quite poor as a result.
I can usually see a ball rolling on the green from 300 yards away pretty easily even in less-than-ideal conditions. It's never mine from that far away.
