Ack8236 Most likely the current homeowners policy evolved over time due to litigation. We know who to thank for that. I have read homeowners policies from the 50s and they were far shorter and easier to understand that today's policies.
I also feel there is a perception by people that they pay a premium and "everything" should be covered.
Typically, earthquake is excluded. Fire and wind is not, but the wind is changing in some coastal locations.
I would recommend you sit down and review your policies with your agent. If you don't have a good agent, find one. Your insurance is only as good as your agent.
You are entitled to your beliefs. Insurance is far from a scam. It is one of, if not the most highly regulated financial products. Every state has a Bureau of Insurance that regulates policies rates etc... If you feel it is a scam you have every right to self insure. Make sure your risk taking appetite matches your risk taking ability.
