He looked so good in that photo.
Thanks now I really feel old. I'm older than Dick Butkus.
And I know the perfect gift for him! http://insidetailgating.com/blog/2011/09/09/qwik-cook-grill/
Great concept except newspaper has ink and additive in the the paper which night produce toxic fume with high heat.... Convenience, yes. May cause health issue , probably .
Butkus hawked that product in a famously bad infomercial back in the 90's
He looks even better here!
And I almost bought the newspaper fueled grill.
It was attractive for the ease of using but ..... something was not right .
Gotta respect someone whom will duck-tape his injury and play on ...... one tough crazy player.
My favorite player back in the day...
Used to watch films of his hits night before playing the next day back in my "glory days" of high school. Thanks for posting.
With the pussyfication of the NFL today, there will never be another like him! Or Ray.
A lot of those hits would be 15 yarders today. Maybe even expulsion!
All this for a mere $50K/yr.. Adjusted for inflation, that would still only be about $336K today.
Alex Karras too. Dinosaurs now.
He was tough, but I gotta say, no match for the Butkus' or Nitschkes! (I had to rethink that statement(deleted) as I do remember him as a killer tackle!!)
That division did have some monsters all right, along with the Purple People Eaters in MN!!
🖒 when defensive players were men and QB's were nervous
Butkus knocked out Steelers L.C. Greenwood on a special teams play. He was easily the most feared player ever.
Deacon Jones, who was no slouch said this:
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, if you have any sense, you will keep Dick Butkus away from you!"
I must be getting old as well.
I was at the Rose Bowl in 1964 when he played there. Have never forgotten him.
He actually abused people! 🙂
Lots of shoulders and hits to the mid section. Clean hard hits.... I like it...
