Restaurant menus...

So, having been vaccinated and covid numbers way down in our area and being on summer trips, we have gone to a few restaurants. One thing covid has apparently changed that I absolutely hate is digital menus. You have to use a smartphone camera to get scan a QR code for a url that opens a web browser or downloads a pdf to see a menu......then you have to struggle to navigate a big menu on a small phone screen. I don't know how older people can do it. I assume they still have actual menus for those situations. Anyway, just another way covid has made the world a little bit worse.

One of the local restaurants the Mrs. and I visit occasionally has that method, but when we asked for regular
menus they did have them available. It would be a PITA for me, as I'm much less "digitally talented" than my
wife. Several places we have gone to have paper menus printed off and dispose of them after you use them.

My kid brother took me to one of those places before covid hit. I didn't like it then. It's a bloody joke.

A waitress we just had a few nights ago held her breath until we picked up the little cards with the QR coding and we then pulled out our phones. It's nice to show these young whippersnappers that some of us old dogs will surprise you with some of the tricks we know.

@Dufferman , the establishment has to have full-size, printed menus available. Date nights also mean to us no phones on the table during dinner so they need to accommodate the couples that are dining and don't have phones with them.

mikeintopeka It seems to be mainly chain type restaurants which we don't eat at when we are home. Too many good small time places in this area. Next time we are in a place and they want me to scan I'm just going to ask for normal menus.

Talked with my sister today and she is 6 years younger then me (32) and she didn't even know what to do when she went to a place with these things. I know my father in law, (who just got a smart phone) would not be using it to look at a menu.

mikeintopeka they need to accommodate the couples that are dining and don't have phones with them.

They also have to realize not everyone has spent $1200 for a smart phone.

We went out last night and my son was talking about older people complaining about trying to use the QR code. I think as long as you don’t have a flip phone you’re good to go.

I like using it because a lot of places are dark and it’s toug to read an actual menu. Last thing you want to do is use your flashlight app to read a menu... then you look caveman old.

I don’t have a problem with using the phone to get the menu, but have found that some are poorly put together and difficult to navigate.

Same here and worse yet, they don't manage the content. "I'm sorry sir, but we don't have that". Then update your digital menu!
