I never had to go bi-focal, but I can’t do glasses in any sport, I lose the target too often through the motion, and they distort my depth perception enough to be a problem. I was always for contacts. That said, I’d throw out the other option, LASIK. I got mine done 10 years ago, still the best money I have ever spent, bar none. Now I’m younger and I know it’s not as common in the 50+ crowd, but I’ll say this, my former colleague got his at 48 and 10 years later is still good to go. Even if it “wears off” quicker at older ages, it’s still worth it for a few good years and just being able to throw on readers as needed.
No more fumbling to find glasses in the morning, no more burning contacts in allergy season, no fuss, just get up and go, all day, every day. I paid over $5k at the time, I have saved it back 2x in not buying contacts, I’m happy, but there’s no price to put on not having to think about seeing anymore.
