I did not pick NM because of the politics, and would not have decided to live here if I used that criteria. Purely for my son. however, Nope, not really considered NM a border state in my view. El Paso, about 45 miles east/SE is one. No big city on a border. (No real big cities in NM, Las Cruces is the #2 pop at 115,00) I use the Puerto Palomas border crossing for dental work, first rate dental in a tiny town there, no activity at crossing. Many folks state they allow US to return with a license, no passport.
No visible signs of people here either, big complaint once was Texas sending folks here but I never saw it and the complaint died quickly. Again, no one cares, and New Mexico is too poor for anyone wanting to come here.
Not an issue in the few election commercials I've seen.
