Steel shaft in a hybrid?

Anyone using a steel shaft in a hybrid? I'm thinking of trying one again.

I used to carry a steel shafted 4h and 5w, but 5 years ago I went to all graphite including my irons. Just last week I ordered steel shafted irons (light weight steel) and I'm thinking of trying a steel shafted 4 hybrid again. Not sure if I should just use the iron shaft I was fitted to: DG 105 or something else. I was thinking Nippon 8950 might be good.

I use FST90 steel shafts in my hybrids. They stay on line better for me compared to graphite shafts. My 20° hybrid is my 220-240 club with the steel shaft.

I like TT dynalite or FST 115 when I use steel in hybrids.

Really good choice for 4 or 5 hybrids. Club just wants to go straight.

Mattyv I was thinking that shaft might be a good choice as well. I used to have a Nakashima NX1 w/ TX90 shaft that was money. It's still at my inlaws in AZ with literally no paint left on the head lol. Desert golf is brutal on clubs.

I'm a fan of the FST115 (trimmed stiff) shafts in my irons. I've played them in hybrids and they feel fine but just a tad heavy. I'm thinking about trying out the FST90 in some hybrids but they don't offer them in stiff. I'm thinking of trimming them in regular plus an inch. How's this sound?

P.S. I think I've asked this before. If so, ignore that one. 🙂

I had DG s300 in wishon 775s hybrids for the longest time and they were great - not sure why I don't play them anymore lol - still got em I think

That's why we all when visiting allow 15 clubs ... one being the most important club.
The "Rock Club".
No reason to hit and ruin clubs. I have an old Cleveland 6 iron that I use from the desert. It will get me back to the fairway from 150 yards or lower. Looks like shit for good reason.

My Adams XTD ti 23+26 degree both have Nippon 950GH REG flex iron shafts in them.
I put the extra 3+4 iron shafts I had lying around in them, uncut.
High ball flight with no effort and good and consistent distance as well.
They also don't "fold up" out of the rough, wet or dry.
Pleasant surprise and no desire to change them out after numerous other experiments.

Don't use hybrids anymore since I can't seem to find a hook proof one. Even the non-offset ones seem to go hard left for me with just the slightest misstep. I have a 22 degree Zebra I put together with a True Temper Crossfire shaft sitting outside in my garage. It worked as well or better than any other hybrid I've used, but I still don't trust it. Confidence is a requirement and I don't think I've ever had it with hybrid style clubs.

johnnydoom I hear Ping G410 and Mizuno CLK HBs can be laid fairly flat in Lie Angle. Have you tried a HB with a flat lie? Might help with the lefts. Alternatively, Wishon 775s can be bent flat.

I had a hooking problem with hybrids until I went to steel shafts in them. The hook is now a nice controllable draw.

toraider Thanks for the suggestion, but I've turned my experimentation over to fairway woods instead. 7 wood seems to be working and so far it doesn't have any bend to it. Between the 5 wood and 7 wood I seem to have the 170 - 200 yard range covered pretty well.

Steel shafts work well in hybrids.

I did the same and it works great! You should be fine doing that.

PS. I am still using the same Adams hybrid from when this thread started with the same FST90 shaft.
