azgreg It's a 2006 Ford Escape with just shy of 200,000 miles. I put a transmission in it 2 1/2 years ago and a new AC system in it 1 1/2 years ago. I found a used engine with 45,000 miles on it for $1,100. The car needs a new rack and pinion along with a few other things. I'm looking at about $3,000. I'm just weighing what direction I want to go.
Wow... what Pike said.
Thats a lot of miles on an Escape. I can see where it keeps nickel and dimeing you and the thought is that’s it’s cheaper than buying a new car. We’ve said that here with a few vehicles. My youngest had a Volvo Wagon during his college years for commuting. A/C didn’t work and we weren’t gonna spend over a grand on a compressor for a car that we paid $2500 for. The mile were low too, 133,000. We had to replace the ABS module for $500 and brakes too and a set of tires.
He’s been in Japan for a couple years now so I was using it after the layoff. I spent $500 on a thermostat etc... and then a month later the cooling system starts shitting the bed. I was done putting money into it at that point. $500 here, $500 there... seems better than getting something else but then I said to myself," what the hell are you doing". Now the car is gone. Got what I could for it "“as is"
