Stu1961 I suspect you are all being deliberately dense. There has obviously been a move over the past decade or so toward encouraging people to play the tees that fit their ability or their distance, and moving away from the idea of men's tees, senior tees, ladies' tees, etc.
Do you think Troy, mentioned upthread, who can routinely hit her driver 300+ yards, should play the red tees? And do you think that Uncle Steve and/or Rex (to name just two among many others) should be playing the 'men's tees' just because they are men?
Why can't it be that some golfers hit the ball further than others, and leave it at that? There are plenty of women who can hit drives in the 240-275 range; the red tees were not designed for them. Likewise, there are plenty of men out there who are lucky to hit their driver 185-200 yards. They should not be playing the 'men's' tees. This is the reason why the USGA has been trying to get rid of these antiquated names/categorizing of tee boxes. Time to move on. Not everything is the same in today's world as it was 40 years ago, no matter how much you might want it to be.
