I'm laughing because I thought everyone knew about this method. I've used it since the 1st year I started golfing. Had a heck of a time getting to the green, and after reading a bit, figured I better start at the green and go backwards, for improvement. Found the 6i to be the best to use, and just used my normal putting stroke. With all the finagling of lofts through the years, I've now settled on the 8i, sometimes 7i, for chips; even some pitches. If you read the chip like you would a putt, you will start to have some 'no putt' holes; there have been far too many to remember through all these years. Plus, the putts are shorter, and more made. Lots more.
I literally went from shooting in the 90's....for 9 holes, to shooting low 40's, for 9, in the 1st summer of golf. Mainly from the chipping & putting. Still works, as it should, and much more needed as the years have gone by.
Never understood those that immediately pulled the wedges for those shots, even the Pros.
