We played venerable old Ottawa Park Golf Course in Toledo today. It's been in continuous operation since 1899, designed and built by S.P. Jermain, one of the founding members of Toledo's famous Inverness Club. At the time it was built, it was the first public golf course West of the Appalachians. It was remodeled by Art Hills in the 1970's, but still follows the same routing on beautiful, rolling, heavily treed terrain.

I shot 36-40-76, and managed to screw up a really good round by taking double bogies on the last two holes (penalties on each). Still hard to be upset....I made virtually EVERY putt I had today, including three for birdies (I'm usually happy if I make ONE birdie per round)! I birdied the hole below, a 115 yard par 3 over that huge bunker.

So, what is in the bag that is working so well? Or is it more of an epiphany / key that hasn't run it's course yet? Possibly a little of both.

Bag full of XXIO Prime. I demoed them at our Florida club for 3 weeks in August, ordered some to be waiting for me here on my return.

XXIO Prime 10 driver, 6h, 7-AW. Cleveland Smart Sole SW, PING NOME putter.

The swing is also in a good place right now.....seem to have found a nice slot. Could it be due to the ultra light clubs? Dunno.

Nope. Cant hit them for shit and don't need one anyway. I never go for par 5s in 2 and I play from 5K tees. That 6 hybrid goes 150 in the air for me.

Ah, we got lucky. The Pro tourney went out after our groups, so we made it around in 4:15. Yep, greens were nasty, and pins were nasty. I had 35 putts and felt really good about it.

When you hit 13/14 fairways, hit 12 greens, and have no lost balls or penalty strokes, and still shoot 80....you know the greens are tough.

Decent if windy day so after dog walk and lunch I grabbed the pencil bag and did the top 12 on our Carrickstone course. Par(score) looks like this

3(6) - Short-sided, 2 bad chips + 3 putts
5(5) 5(5) 4(4) 4(4) - 4 fairways, 4 GIR, 4 2-putts
3(4) - Bad tee shot left a lenghty up'n'down attempt, the "up" was short and 2 putts for "down"
4(3) - FW, GIR, single putt (blind 2nd shot, pitch mark was directly between the flag and my ball, about 5' long)
4(4) - only fw I missed but GIR and 2 putts
3(3) - Another GIR and 2 putts
4(5) 4(4) - fws, failed GIRs, 2 decent scrambles but left a par putt just short on one of them
4(4) and GIR, 2 putt finish

So a few birdie chances there, and a missed putt for par, but all of them bar 1 right online, just needing an ounce more. Greens under prep for winter so a bit slower than normal, adjusted pretty quickly though, which I'm not surprised at - I've been considering a change of putter and I think my current one must have seen me and decided to behave itself ...

I shot 34-39-73 today at Detwiler Park GC, an Art Hills course owned by the city of Toledo. Might have
been the best ball-striking round of the season, as I hit 14 greens-in-regulation.....that's about as good as
I can play, although I 3-putted once and missed a couple of shortish birdie putts.

81 at Silverthorn in Spring Hill. Birdied the first hole and that was it for birdies. Drove the ball exceptionally well. Lost $3.00 in greenies. Turkey sub at Subway for lunch. Lovely day.

I quit keeping score on the front nine because it was so bad, then discovered that I was lifting my head on hole 10 and went +3 on the back nine shooting a 39.
