Thursday was a memorial matchplay event for two former senior team members. Red team for me, playing against my regular league partner (and they told me it was a random draw for ties after pairing players up ...). 3 down early but back to all square after 10. Won 17 with a par to go 1 up but 3 putted the last for a tie ... it was a hard one to lip out but I managed it ... not my best ball striking or putting round but good fun.

Back in the clubhouse 30-45 minutes before anyone else. There were 7 ties teeing up across 3 holes, not a shotgun start but as close as we could get to try and keep everyone together for the post match drinks. Didn't account for ome overstaying their welcome at the memorial bench where there was a drop or two of the hard stuff to toast absent friends.

Red team won the golf, blue team were ahead in the drinking when I left ...

Today back out in a ride-on for another golf_ghirl practice round. Started with what felt like a bad back so wasn't hitting hard - so not long - but shuffled my way round in 45/41 for an 86. 1 birdie but some quality chip shots. Back home for food, and feel like someone's been using my kidneys for boxing practice. Hmm. Going to a football match tomorrow so plenty water and early to bed (relatively speaking ... it's already midnight), hoping to feel better in the morning.

Long, 5 hours, hot round with Jake today. Had me 3 down at the turn but I dug in to go 1 under on the back. & the li'l bastage did the same!! 72-69. (Par 71)

Crappy 49. I’m working on turning and not sliding off the tee (I’ve got way too much leg/knee action). Also working on not bending left elbow. I’ve narrowed my stance and slowed the back swing and transition. It all feels like crap but is necessary if I want to get any consistency. The driver wasn’t great but I did tag two 3Ws over 240. (It’s the 13* Thriver Mini built to 5w length). At least between the Alieve and brace my knee felt ok. I did make it a bit easier going with the push cart instead of carrying

LogicalOne He only plays a handful of times every year. Don't know how good he'd be if out 1-2 times weekly, all summer. For me, it's like playing with Pro, with the lengths he hits. And now, the scores are coming down also, as his accuracy is getting much better. (he still can't putt😁...blew that easy birdie)

Played nine at an executive course in the Hamptons yesterday morning, walked with an old school pull cart. Cool, windy, and very wet conditions. Had the course almost to myself.
Pretty disappointing after my recent rounds, although I did make one birdie and several pars, and hit one tee shot 245 (good for me in those very wet and cool conditions).
I smothered a number of shots into worm burners, which is something I almost never do. I had at least three very makeable birdie putts and missed them all (my one birdie was a chip-in). I teed up on the wrong side of a 72-yard par 3 and my tee shot (which felt and sounded good) hit a branch of a tree I thought I would go under, so it took me two shots to get to the green.
The ugly shots would just crop up out of the blue after several good ones. I wanted to hit a bucket of range balls after the round to see if I could figure out where they came from, but the buckets were too expensive. I hole it was just a one-off; I have been playing well including just three days previously. I will try to get to the range early this week and see if I can straighten things out.

My old neck of the woods! I grew up in Hampton, VA. We used to ride our dirt bikes on that track of land back in the 70s.

sdandrea1 No, Uncle Steve, i'm talking about the Hamptons on the Eastern end of Long Island, NY, where the rich and famous live. The course was between Bridgehampton and Sagoponack. I was visiting my brother in the North Sea region of Southhampton, not but a few miles from Shinnecock Hills golf course.

Played both Saturday and Sunday this weekend (for the first time in a few weeks) - Stableford competition yesterday, usual Sunday sweep today. Saturday's round was very solid for the most part - three birdies, a lot of comfortable pars, and a little disappointing not to get up and down on either of the last two holes to end up with 73. Today was more about finding a way of getting the ball round without having my best stuff - struggled a bit with ball-striking early on, bogeying the first four holes, but a nice punch 8-iron to 4 feet at the 5th settled things down, and I found a way to get it round after that, with one more birdie (knockdown 6-iron approach to the front fringe on 14, and holed an uphill 15-footer) and pars on every other hole for 70. A couple of little nibbles on the handicap from these rounds should get me down to 0.5, which is as low as I've been, with a few chances to go lower coming up (none of the next five scores to drop off are in my best eight).

LogicalOne I had to laugh back in July, when him, his Dad, my son, and I were all out together. My son has irons I gave him for a birthday. Jake has a bag, and clubs, & golf balls I gave him. Jake's Dad has a bag and a couple clubs I cast aside. All 3 have LogicalOne putters also. Good chuckle, happy chuckle! 😉

Played erratic today. 46-47. Had 3 birdies and went full blown Tin Cup on 18 with a 12!!! Drive had an unplayable lie. 3rd shot after my drop ended up in thick rough on the left side of the fairway. Had 170 over a pond that goes all the way up to the green. 4th shot in the drink, drop, in the drink, drop, in the drink, drop, on the green and 2 putt. Par would have given me 40 on the back nine. This is not the 1st time this has happened on this same exact hole. Many years ago on the same hole I had a chance to break 80 for the 1st time with a par and I made either an 11 or 12. I hate that hole.

81 in my Monday morning group...17 mph sustained winds and top dressed greens so I scraped it around. I'll take it.

78 today at Hobbs Hole, Tappahannock, VA. Turf conditions were as good as any public course I've ever played. Low slope, short, friendly layout. Golf is fun there.
