sdandrea1 SWMBO and I teamed up for the season opener today. Front 9, alternate shot, back nine, scramble. We place 3rd of 10 teams in the mixed flight with a net 74.
I might add that IMO,
(flame on) THE ALTERNATE SHOT FORMAT IS A VILE AND EVIL SCOURGE UPON THIS GAME AND OUR PLANET.
I had to chuckle at your story Steve b/c it reminded me of a story I've told several times that happened at the course where I worked for several summers early in my teaching career. There was a couple that belonged there named Frank and Lois who could not have been LESS of a match for each other......he was a good player, club champion type, but also a drinker and carouser....she was a TERRIBLE golfer, and grumpy old school teacher type who stood for none of his nonsense. As you can imagine, they would bicker at each other in public ALL the time.
So one holiday, the member couples decided to have an Alternate Shot tournament, husbands and wives paired together. So they tee off, and I'm in the pro shop about 15 minutes later when Frank and Lois come driving back from #1 green. I watch them drive to the parking lot, throw their clubs in their car, slam the trunk, and he drives the cart back to the pro shop; obviously, they've had a big blowup....!!
So, when he brings the cart key in the pro shop, I say "Frank, what happened?" He says, "You know how I hate playing with her, right? Well, I hit our drive right down the middle.....she dumps our next shot in the creek. So, we take a penalty and I hit our next shot about 2 yards short of the green.....she skulls the chip shot over the green and OB. So I said to her, "For Chrissakes Lois....we'd be better off it you'd just swing and miss once in a while!!!" Obviously, they were the talk of the tournament when the other couples finished, LOL.
