KCee So it was a tournament for the blind. You could try the putting challenge, 3 balls for $20 wearing a blindfold. It was a 10 footer. He did it, I watched while our other guy went back to his car for more marijuana.

The guy looks like Danny Noonan peeking under the blindfold to line up and then blasting it 30 feet past the cup. In the meantime, the other guys gets back with the pot. I asked if it was for glaucoma 😂.

We start playing again. We have a 15 foot uphill putt for birdie. The guy who tried then blindfolded putt hits it off the green and into the rough. Had to have hit it 20 feet past the cup AND uphill. I said to him , “ Jesus Christ… you still got the blindfold on?”

Typhoon Sounds like a fun day! I have to play a scramble this Saturday at my club. Stupidly agreed to sub if people couldn't make it and figured I was safe since last week everyone was accounted for.

Getting stuck with 2 brothers that actually can golf, but are raging alcoholics. We tee off at noon and these guys will be tailgating at 10am and fall down drunk before the back 9. At least I only have to pay for the cart and I get a free steak dinner.

Tuesday Oct. 1, 2024......not a good day for golf. As I played it anyway. 🤣

Only got to mid 60s tempwise and a howling wind of 20+mph. But, no excuses.
Well, maybe just 1....I played from the back tees with everyone else. A few 100 yds. might have made that big diff.?

      44/44....88.

Hit driver(s) fine. Actually hit the 20+ yr. old generic irons good also. End of story.

Played a course we had not been to in over 20 years, and scored about the same as then. Pretty little 9 holer/twice around course out in the boonies. Family owned/run operation since the 70's.
The course was in the best condition of any course I've played the last several years. Nice greens and not much in the way of ballmarks this late in season. FWs closely cut; something I'm not used to. I'll go back on a better day to see how the scoring goes.

Today, we head out to a course we've not played....Fyre Lake (@ode). A bit warmer, a bit less wind(hopefully). Details to follow, maybe pics. I'll take relish a score under 90 on this course.

Typhoon They may be decent for the front 9 at most. They'll be falling out of the cart on the back. At least they are happy drunks, but they are also really loud. I may have to bring a bottle and join them.

I shot 35-36-71 this morning at Detwiler Park GC in Toledo. I'm not sure where these good scores are coming from,
but I hope they don't stop anytime soon! 11 GIR, 2 birdies, 29 putts. As an added bonus, the course wasn't crowded, and we played in 3 hours walking!

ode Gotta be a record 🙃

Nope, I had 45 one time. Tough course, I had probably my best ball striking round ever. Hit every FW and 14 GIR. 40 total strokes tee to green and 45 putts for an 85! And some of those were 5 footers for birdie that ended up 3 putts.

fatshot I'm not sure where these good scores are coming from,

        Everyone’s came comes around in Oct/Nov. 🥴

        Rule of the Cosmos.

Almost broke par today. Shot a 72 (+2). 4 birdies. One ball OB (on a layup shot of course) AND two balls which I hit exactly where I wanted - only to have the balls magically disappear. Outside of those 3 lost balls, just one bogey from a pulled 9 iron. Played shorter tees (5700 yds) and it sure was enjoyable.

Got 18 holes in with grandson Jesse today. Was so nice to get out and play. Beautiful fall weather. 38, 41 today. Greens were slow, so I was putting well.

Big Calcutta this weekend and I haven't played in the last 3 weeks due to a Canadian fishing trip and illness until today's nine holes.

Practice session tomorrow and then grind it out for the $$$.... 🏌

9 holes with the Korean women at the club. I love playing with them. Ho hum -3…. Still not hitting it great… especially driver.
First hole par 5 catch a drive thin down the middle, 5 iron from 190 on the green -1
Next couple holes, iron left side of green, little pull, iron right side of green, poor alignment. Made pars. Fourth hole par 5 decent drive, thinned a 7 iron just short and got it up and down for -2. Short par 3 I think I nearly shanked… but just missed the green, up and down par. Crap drive on 6 left in a trap. Knocked it on the green and 2 putts. 8 th hole or 3 I decided I was too far from the ball putting so got closer and hit the 12 footer for -3. Par on 9.

Just when I think I got it at the range I go out and play and it’s not it. I need to get to a grass range.

87, Wednesday. Not much good to say about anything that day, except maybe driver was 'normal'.

Played a course I've been wanting to play for a few years. Newer course that had some really bad operation/owner problems from the gitgo. I'll just say .....delays and prisons and bankruptcies for local banks.

Had not read any reviews about the place but figured they were doing well now a few years after startup. Supposed to be a Nicklaus designed course, but if so, Jack has never seen the design nor set foot upon the land. It has taken me 2 days just to try to understand what I saw and went through that day.

Right off, we pull into the parking lot and it is dirt and rock, not gravel.....white rock of the large size. Then it is an uphill trek to clubhouse, which is some type of prefab deal, with doors trying to fall off hinges. Paid(way too much) then wanted to get a drink to take out. Only thing they had was diet Mtn Dew, water, or Gatorade.....only lemon-lime!! Not sure if they had beer, but iirc, I did see just 1 brand in cooler. Later found out they had $10 cheeseburgers. I got a bag of chips and Gatorade for $7.50!!

Took a while to find the 1st tee due to no directions anywhere, not even on scorecard. BTW, the carts are maybe the slowest things I've ever driven. Gas powered.

Just really not 1 thing I can say good about the whole operation, or the course itself. No idea why anyone would think it would make a good playing golf course site. I'd have to check the area history, and maybe find it was a coal mining operation wayyyyy back when. Most of the FWs were a steep drive down to. The FWs themselves were like carpets, if not laminate flooring. Less than 1" of grass on top of sand. I never had 1 good nor decent ball contact in 18 holes. After the fact, I'm thinking these FWs were 'rolled', not mowed. The greens....omg....not a 2' area of flatness on any of the 18. 'Undulation' is not even the proper term. 'Nightmare' is a bit closer, but still not a good description. Do not think of 1 putting unless the ball is within 3". And then it's iffy.....and 2 putts back. And the greens have been rolled many times over, hard as concrete, every one.
A horrible golf course. jmo, of course.

It does 'look' nice when just standing/looking around. But to play it is not something I'll ever do again.

Acres of wasted land. Not a course that would ever be walked unless you have some type mental problem. And if walked, you'd need medical attention during the round. (I don't think they allow walking anyway.) A couple holes have a few blocks to navigate between green & next tee. We drove probably 1/2 mile between 2 holes on the back 9!!!
A couple holes are cart path only, due to the steepness of the slopes down to FWs. And of course I hit the right side of 1 with a left side cart path. Hella workout just on 1 hole. Sheer idiocy in design.

The scorecard would give us yardage, GPS would give us something entirely different, and when the ball was hit, you got something different yet. Been trying to figure that out since we left the course. ex.- card shows 344, GPS(over water...straight line) shows 292.(pic #6) The 2 boys can both do 300 easily, but wisely chose to go more straight out. Their 2nd shots were from 130!!! Will never figure this out. Every hole was like that. It was basically a 'poke n hope' type thing. I played the same tees as they did as there was only the 1 tee box open, out of 4 or 5.

So, my advice to anyone that may be thinking of playing this course........DON'T!! I will not go back even if paid to do so.....well....unless it's 3+ digits.😄
No idea how I managed to break 1000!!!

Also, no bathrooms or refreshments on course and when we were finished, I tried to go inside to use the bathroom......but doors were locked at 5:15!!

pics....looks nice, like I said....plays exceptionally horrible. jmo again.

(back) son due to marriage....Jake's Dad
        (front) son from (prior) marriage

Par4QC It looks great in your pictures anyway. I hate the kind of green contours you described. Ours are tricky here. I never seem to have a straight 4 footer.

Anyway, I’m guessing you don’t agree with the review below. 😏

DonM Yeah, I laugh at that one! I even made the statement, while playing, that anyone making such a statement would have been playing a free round.
And their statement about the greens.......omg. Just look at the pic of the 1 green I posted.....the colorations of light-dark. Those are the typical contours of every green. And they are not subtle on the majority of 18.

I did forget to mention there is no on cart GPS, which might be expected with the price. The card only shows layout of course, nothing to go by when trying to judge distance to bunkers, water, etc.. For all that you must download their GPS. And get ad notices throughout every day after.(an assumption on my part...??)
And they use a 3rd party booking system. Things I do not trust fully.

After 3 days since, I'm still trying to figure the confusion of distances while playing. I was only 15' short of driving a Par 4. It showed 305 on card, & by sight, looked such. My sons were also just short and they are 300+/- hitters.
            GPS showed 190! 🤔

Par4QC If you really want an adventure, drive east on 80 to mile marker 93, I think. Play The Bourne. It was built by a somewhat rich guy for himself and friends. It’s in an old quarry or mine or something like that. It’s no frills but interesting and weird. The first time you’ll be lost and probably cranky. There are blind shots that require advice from the guy in the clubhouse.

When it was first built it had lots of tall grasses but they’ve tamed it down. They can’t tame the weird layout though.

                DonM
Those tee areas, through the trees!!
Never heard of that place til now. Not going over for a visit either.😄

                re: you'll be lost.....
at Fyre Lake there is also no directional signs as to where the next tee area is. And cart paths cross frequently.
