I played today. I shot 45-46. It was a beautiful day but it took over 5 hours to play the round. The longest round I've had to endure in a long time.
I was cruising along pretty well with a chance to break 90 until after my tee shot on 17. It was actually a decent tee shot. It's a short par four and my playing partner was waiting for the green to clear because he had a chance to reach the green. While we're waiting, one of the guys in front of us walks off the green back toward two of our balls (maybe 30 yards). I tried to yell at him but there was a mower near him so he couldn't hear me. We weren't sure if he actually picked them up or not because we couldn't actually see our balls. Of course my ball is nowhere to be found. I drop a ball and hit one my worst approach shots of the day. These guys are still on the next tee box right behind our green, so I go up to the guy and ask if he picked up my ball, a ball with a green line. He says he picked up his ball that he dropped. I show him one of my balls that is marked the same and he pulls out the ball he picked up and of course it's mine. I hadn't realized he picked up another guy's ball or I would have gotten that back too. I completely lost my focus and ended up triple bogeying the 18th hole.
I've never seen anything like that. Walking back off the green and picking up two balls. I seen balls get picked up on adjacent holes, but never this.
