Just a gimmick?

I just came across the Odyssey Stroke Lab Black Seven Toe Up Putter, which kinda sent me down a rabbit hole. The rabbit hole being the Odyssey "backstryke" putters. I kinda understand the center shaft putter, easier to hit square. Why put the shaft at the back of the putter? Is it just a gimmick to sell clubs? Or does it actually make putting easier?
That said, I really like the look of the black seven tow up, and the sabertooth backstryke putters. Kinda thing about trying to find one at a price I'm willing to pay $200.00 is kinda steep...

putters are very unique to each player. Weight, length, lie angle all play into that comfort and confidence.
Shaft going into the back might help someone release the putter head?

It could help someone get their hands in front at impact? It’s all relative to your swing?

AS a newbie, I recommend that you stick with something simple that feels good in your hands, and your "new" way to grip it as well.
As for gimmick...I say yes and try before you buy!

Spuzz Try before you buy, that is wise advise, and honestly the best thing to do. I do my best to not buy equipment without a quick try or 4.
That new grip you linked to is great. My carpet putting practice is now out to 4' and I'm making more than I miss. The ones I do miss are mostly short. Thank you for that!

For short putts, try to look past the hole a bit, not at it.
See if that helps. Speed is always the key.
If you keep up with the practice you will see results on the course.

Putters are definitely a personal preference. I loved a center shaft for putts 5 feet or less but hated it for over 10. Give me my gamer (Odyssey Black similar to a Ping B60), and Anser, or an old AP Blade and my overall putting is better

I wouldn’t call the backstyke a gimmick. It will work for some and got some level of tour use. It will help certain strokes. I’ve got two buddies that had used them in the past.

Although it wasn’t for me, they had them in the bag quite awhile but neither are currently using them.
