PA-PLAYA Tom Seaver - August. Joe Morgan, Whitey Ford - Oct. Phil Niekro - December. Tommy Lasorda, Don Sutton, and Hank Aaron - the past month. Been a tough stretch for MLB... RIP Hank.
Natpharm RIP Hank. What a class person and probably one of the very few athletes that truthfully qualify as being a 'hero'. Still remember 714 being hit at Riverfront off Jack Billingham to tie Ruth. And who can forget the scene in Atlanta when he hit 715. Great ball player and man!
SMT Natpharm I believe it was a 3-2 pitch off Al Downing for #715 if the memory of a 12 year old is intact.
Eguller SMT Imagine his courage and willpower to do what he did with racism and death threats swirling around him. Amazing.
fatshot RIP....! Not only was he a great ballplayer, but he seemed like a really good man. I remember watching him breaking the Babe's HR record.....we even allowed our (then) 10 year old son to stay up to watch.
mikeintopeka My wife and I drove over to KC to catch Hank play for the Brewers as his career was winding down. The eardrum-shattering ovations he received when he stepped to the plate was awesome and brought tears to his eyes (too). He was a humble man that always carried himself with class.
garyt1957 One of my childhood favorites which is strange because I never really got to see him play as I was in a American League town. Only saw him in the All Star game and the few times the Braves made the playoffs.
johnnydoom Regret that I didn't see him play more when I was young. Found this golf quote when I looked him up. "It took me seventeen years to get three thousand hits in baseball. I did it in one afternoon on the golf course." Hank Aaron
garyt1957 When asked the difference between him and Willie Mays Hank said "My hat seems to fit better". Classic.
Rickochet FauxAmish Yes, #24 Al Downing of the Dodgers. A former Yankee pitcher. Also a pitcher for the Louisville Colonels I think.
Natpharm FauxAmish Yes, #24 Al Downing of the Dodgers. A former Yankee pitcher. A little known (or at least mentioned) fact - Al Downing was the only player in uniform both when Maris beat Ruth's season HR record and when Aaron broke his total HR record. One of my favorite trivia questions... carry on.
