I've been quite inactive so just realized I was tagged in this thread from January, lol. I agree with pretty much everything @mikeintopeka said about the area and golf courses, etc.
@livegolf I think the reason the cost of living advantage over other major metro areas isn't as great as "others led you to believe" is the gap closed a lot the last 10-12 years or so. Real estate prices have skyrocketed as there has been so much migration from other places. Those of us who have lived here longer are probably a little out of touch with the perspective of new people moving in, because the difference was so great for so long. Traffic is a lot worse than it was 10-15 years ago, too.
As for the weather, I have always hated the hot summers but overall the climate is more golf friendly than the upper Midwest where I grew up and put the clubs away for 6-8 months. Unfortunately, the weather has become more volatile in North Texas. It used to be we'd have near perfect weather in Oct/Nov and March/April, and you could still play in portions of Dec-Feb, especially late Feb. More recently the temps fluctuate up and down a lot more from Feb through May, with more rain and storms. Hail has always been a thing here, but it has become more frequent.
Now that I've given my .02, @DonM welcome to the area! 🙂 Any of you guys ever tee it up?
